Watch This Robot Band Bust Out Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" We all joke that robots are going to take over the world and destroy humankind, but after watching this video I'm feeling a little more concerned about robots taking over the rock'n'roll scene. That's right, YouTuber db594 created a robot band named End of Life (EOL) and they sure can rock out. The song they play in the video below is a cover of Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" and according to the video's description on YouTube that was a complete accident. The fact that he was able to pull this off is pretty damn impressive, but my favorite aspect of the band is probably the scanner. Related Posts:The World's Only Turbine-Powered Batmobile!

Contagious Yawning: Why We Do It, What It Shows About Us Yawning is a mysterious thing. For starters, just reading that sentence may have caused you to yawn. The behavior, technically a reflex that involves opening the mouth and a simultaneous stretching of the eardrum, is contagious--and the video above sets out to explain why. The video was created by VSAUCE, a YouTube channel that offers "Amazing Facts & The Best of the Internet." We also learn about the function of pandiculation, or yawning and stretching simultaneously, and how animals that move in groups might have evolved such a mechanism. But not everyone can benefit. The video is full of interesting facts about yawning, including why other animals use it to look intimidating, attract mates, or just realign their jaws after a big meal. See more VSAUCE videos here. The bottom side of the Hang has a round opening, the Gu, producing together with the air in the cavity a Helmholtz resonance similar to a ghatam or an udu. Source: Wikipedia

Mucca Pazza, Boss Taurus: Big Band, Itty-Bitty Stage : All Songs Considered Blog Take a humongous group of excitable jokers who have too much free time on their hands, mix in enough instruments to satisfy an entire marching band variety, toss a few gigantic pom poms and enormously-loud/elaborate outfits their way and you'll get Mucca Pazza. The Chicago-based band is a 30-piece (yes, 30 trombonists, trumpeters, guitarists, cheerleaders, and more) community of "circus punks" that makes music that sounds like the results of a rowdy weekend at band camp. Mucca Pazza's new song, "Boss Taurus," feels like a musical debate: the trumpets make a declaration; there's a response from the guitars; and the lone tuba tries to get a word in edgewise. The pieces constantly break apart and then get back to working together to get you bouncing in your chair. The video for "Boss Taurus" has a remarkably simple concept — the members of the band perform and goof off on a tiny stage for three minutes. For this video I wanted to keep things simple.

11 Songs From the '90s That Are Darker Than You Thought The '90s are typically remembered as a pretty fly decade. And that's for good reason, as you could still download songs on Napster without realizing what you were actually doing — plus, there were Beanie Babies as far as the eye could see. It might have seemed all that and a bag of chips, but let's take off these rose-colored glasses for a second and examine the '90s problems that didn't include your CD player skipping or dial-up internet. Many songs from the '90s are, like the decade itself, fun, catchy and well-remembered. However, a lot of the songs you so fondly belt at karaoke actually have a much darker meaning. Although you'd never expect it from their catchy melodies, these lyrics explore dark themes you'd never expect. 1. Show As Gallery

This Bluegrass 'Rocketman' Cover by Iron Horse Is Awesome (Video) There are some space songs that we never outgrow. And yes Elton John's "Rocketman" is one of them. Now you can hear (and see) a spectacular bluegrass take on the classic by Iron Horse, a bluegrass band based in Killen, Alabama. The band posted its version of "Rocketman" earlier this month in conjunction. The band includes Tony Robertson (on mandolin), Vance Henry (on guitar), Ricky Rogers (on bass) and Anthony Richardson, adds the banjo sound you hear. The made the "Rocketman" video in November and posted it on Youtube Jan. 1. In a nice touch, Iron Horse also spliced in some classic images of space exploration history into its music video, giving it an extra flair of space nostalgia.

Video: Majical Cloudz, "Savage" Unless you're a dedicated hand trickster, writing really fast is difficult, even if you're a musician like the ones in Majical Cloudz. Non-Impersonator track “Savage” now has a surprisingly intense lyric video. Devon Welsh cracks open a lyric book and we get his perspective as he tries to keep up with the words as they come.
Watch this video on YouTube Listen: The War On Drugs, "Red Eyes" The War On Drugs and their great 2011 album Slave Ambient used to be blurbed about as the Sons of Springsteen as adopted by My Bloody Valentine. And while that release was a dreamily textured cousin of former member Kurt Vile, new single “Red Eyes” gallops out of the haze and commits to its own rousing imprint of heartland rock with all the non-stop passion of a jailbreak. But its most endearing accomplishment is not just the energy, but the versatility in how it's maintained: the usual suspects like souped-up guitars, acoustic and electric dueling like drag racers, are present. The War On Drugs' Lost In The Dream is out March 2014 on Secretly Canadian.

Kaki King, artist featured on our in-flight Virgin America TV channel, is touring. Don't miss her live. If you've flown Virgin America lately and watched Boing Boing's in-flight entertainment channel (#10 on the satellite TV dial), you've seen Kaki King performing live with us in Hawaii. It was a taping I'll never forget: sitting under the Oahu sun, listening to her strum tunes from her latest album, "Glow." She's an amazing virtuoso, and a force of nature to behold in live performance. She's playing gigs along the California coast right now, including a date in LA tonight, and Northern California dates later this week. Do not miss her.

This Week's Best Songs: ScHoolboy Q, Jamie xx, Tame Impala and more… Where were you all week, huh? Did you have a chest cold? A doctor's appointment? Was your internet down? It's fine, you don't have to explain anything. We've collected all the best music we posted from the past week, right here. ScHoolboy Q, “Man Of THe Year” “Its new age-y drone is the slow motion descent of empty blunt wrappers and full dimebags, and enables Q to note on his triumph more than once amongst his rascally verses about stealing your girl and blowing a cheque in two days.” Eating Out, “Come Around” “The riffing gives the meek vocals, which sound like they've barely escaped Daniel Pitout's throat, some muscle, and evoke grunge's poppier incarnations (think the soundtrack for the opening shot of the high school in a Freddie Prinze, Jr. movie).” Jaakko Eino Kalevi, “When You Walk Through Them All” “Fortifying stuff that massages your frail ego with an airy atmosphere that photosynthesizes sex.” Jamie xx, “Untitled” Tame Impala, “Be Above It” (Erol Alkan remix)
