Can You See Me Now? - Blast Theory | Blast Theory Along with Botfighters, Can You See Me Now? was one of the first location based games. Online players navigated a 3D map of a city-centre game area, whilst Blast Theory runners were on the streets for real. Runners chased after online players, using mobile devices to follow their location live, whilst runners' positions were tracked by satellite and updated in real time on the 3D game area. With up to 100 people playing online at a time, players used text chat to exchange tactics and send messages to the runners. An audio stream from the runners' walkie talkies allowed players to eavesdrop on their pursuers: getting lost, cold and out of breath on the streets of the city. This project was the second major collaboration with the Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Nottingham after Desert Rain. Can You See Me Now? Des vidéos qui peuvent déstabiliser des gouvernements En juin dernier, une vidéo montrant Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, le ministre malaisien de l’économie, en train d’avoir une relation avec Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz, un secrétaire adjoint du ministre, a fait surface en ligne. Mais, selon le premier ministre malaisien, la vidéo n’était que l’une des innombrables autres vidéos truquées ou “deepfake” en anglais, peu précises qui ont trouvé leur chemin sur Internet l’année dernière. De sa création à nos jours, ces signes, qui entourent et écrivent notre existence, ont une évolution graphique complexe. En effet, bien que ces signes aient un espace physique, plastique et sémantique propre dans l’écriture, on remarque que dans une même matière textuelle — des manuscrits jusqu’aux outils numériques contemporains — leur relation peut varier entre harmonie et disharmonie. Cela m’a conduit à interroger les relations de pouvoir linguistiques et graphiques entre les capitales et les minuscules. Après un bref rappel historique de ces formes et de leurs usages, nous porterons un regard sur notre environnement graphique et ses écologies; l’idée principale étant de montrer que les lettres sont des organismes omniprésents et très puissants qui façonnent les paysages de notre existence. A set of chromatic clocks, each set to a different GMT time zone, projects, in a semicircle, the current time in their mathematical and chromatic representations. The conversion between these two forms of time representation is based on an algorithm composed of sinusoidal functions that modulates the RGB colors as a function of the current time, gradually modifying the intensities of blue, green and red throughout the day: at midday yellow predominates, while at four in the afternoon the hour is red; midnight is blue, six o’clock in the morning is green. Side by side, the colors projected by the clocks merge, creating an immersive experience of a continuous and circular time, between the different time zones, that crosses the entire chromatic spectrum. KATE CRAWFORD | TREVOR PAGLEN: TRAINING HUMANS “Training Humans”, concepita da Kate Crawford, professoressa e studiosa nell’ambito dell’intelligenza artificiale, e Trevor Paglen, artista e ricercatore, è la prima grande mostra fotografica dedicata a immagini di training: repertori di fotografie utilizzate dagli scienziati per insegnare ai sistemi di intelligenza artificiale (IA) come “vedere” e classificare il mondo. In questa mostra Crawford e Paglen esplorano l’evoluzione delle collezioni di immagini di training dagli anni Sessanta a oggi. Come afferma Trevor Paglen, “quando abbiamo iniziato a elaborare l’idea della mostra, oltre due anni fa, volevamo raccontare la storia delle immagini utilizzate per il ‘riconoscimento’ di esseri umani nel settore della computer vision e dei sistemi di intelligenza artificiale. Non ci interessavano né la versione inflazionata dell’IA applicata al marketing né le favole distopiche sui robot del futuro”.
