Nice Things Now » Blog Archive » Take a Smile As thanks for filling out yesterday’s survey, this non-designer went out on a limb to make something just for you. I hope you like (and use) it! Backstory: So much time spent pinning things lately had reminded me of my college’s hallway bulletin boards, all those layers and layers of flyers and posters advertising gives and takes, wants and offers. My favorites were always the tear-aways, since you could gauge interest based on the number of tags taken (how many people are interested in doing what on Saturday night?), and as I was thinking about this, a little voice went, “Hmm. The result is three pages of classic tear-aways for you to print out and pin up anywhere that needs a little happiness–the break room at work, the neighborhood board at the grocery store, maybe your own college hallway. DIY: Coasters I am completely obsessed with this next idea, and actually, just might go make these adorable coasters myself to have in our office! Also love the idea of making each bundle different, with modern graphic prints. GREAT way to add a pop to your decor. Here is the play by play… From the crafter…I think these favors are appropriate for our current economic situation. I was first inspired by glass coasters that Martha Stewart featured on her website. {Washi Tape} Book Page Pillow Boxes for Mother’s Day Gifts It feels as if there are countless gift giving opportunities in the spring: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Teacher Appreciation, Graduation and all of the birthdays! I’m not sure about you but I like to give gifts to more than just my mom and mother-in-law on Mother’s Day. I like to include my sisters, sisters-in-law, friends and my kids Godmothers. That ends up being a lot of gifts so I try to keep it simple. This year I am making these easy, washi tape pillow boxes for the Mother’s Day gifts but they can be used for any occasion! To make these pillow boxes I used an old book, card board tubes, a glue stick and washi tape. I tore pages out of the book, glued them to the card board tube and trimmed off any extra paper. For inside the tube, I cut thin strips of kraft paper and hand wrote a message for the recipient. Leave the washi tape tab from the curly note sticking out the end. Looking for additional DIY gift ideas? Who do you need gifts for this spring?

DIY: A Neighborly Get Well Kit | Creature ComfortsCreature Comforts Tip: click on the images for an enlarged view. After moving from our last home, where we had possibly the world’s most atrocious neighbors, I wasn’t expecting much from our new set. So imagine my delighted surprise when several of them stopped by to welcome us to our new home. So when Vivint (a leading provider of simple, affordable home security and other home solutions) asked if I would like to create a couple DIYs with warm neighborly giving in mind, I was excited for the chance to put my neighborly thoughts into action. So with cold and flu season upon us, it seemed that the perfect idea for my first project would be to put together a quick little get well kit that is ideal for a neighbor or friend who is under the weather. Here’s what I used to create my kit: The Get Well Kit is as easy as can be to make. If you’d like to make the Honey Lemon Throat Soother for yourself, here are the simple steps: Boil water. Pour a generous serving of honey over the peel in the bottom of your mug.

messyart: happy thoughts {mini album} It's be a VERY RAINY last few days....so much so that the kids have been home early from school everyday this week due to flooding. Perfect weather for crafting i say! This was a class i taught years ago, called " Make it Yourself". I posted a pic of this album and a couple of you said you would love the class notes. Happy Crafting :) DIY :: Button and String Mini Journal I've been trying to decide on what to make my hubby for a Valentine's gift and decided that I wanted to write more than a letter - so I decided to make him a mini journal / album / book of things I love about him, different memories I have of our life together, things like that (hopefully he won't read this before next weekend ;)). I found this fab tutorial awhile back about button and string closure and somehow wanted to incorporate it, thus I came up with this fun journal - it has a vintage feel - the button and string closure, and a bunch of found papers inside, including old school writing pages, graph paper and strategically cut magazine pages. The fun thing about these journals is you can use them for any occasion- to record a special event, to keep as a personal journal, to write a note to a friend, many possibilities! Take your cover sheet and score a line 1.5" in from the right side (see below). Then score a line 4.75" in from the left side (see below). Voila!

DIY -$25 Iron Man - Mark V Suit Tutorial by FETTS.SOBRIQUET Hey All. I made this thread for anyone curious on how to make some very affordable MARK V IRON MAN ARMOR for themselves and never knew how to do it The tutorial is courtesy of Fetts.Sobriquet of the theRPF.com which you can view it in full and with his permission I am posting it here so its to the point: Tutorial: I've decided to make a tutorial on how to make a riveted plastic Mark V costume. AFettFullofDollars over at TDH figured out that you could make some pretty decent Fett armor out of a trash can 5 years ago. I guess I also assumed everyone knew about this method since the Fett builders have been doing something like it for so long. It actually turns out pretty nice and is cheap and easy to do. I'm not kidding. Here I'm going to build the Mark V step by step. Push Pin Art | Push Pin Art As with the vast majority of my projects lately, this one was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest. I thought this thumbtack wall design was just about the coolest thing ever, and wanted to make a housewarming gift for my little sister based on the idea. I bought a large, cheap frame at Michaels and took out the glass. Next I sketched out the design lightly in pencil. Finally, I started pinning. But I think the end result is pretty cool! I was pretty happy with the finished product, and my sister loved it! Like this: Like Loading... 50 Comments so farLeave a comment
