How to Make Beer - Making Beer at Home
Making a mash is not always necessary--you can brew a perfectly good lager or ale with prepackaged malt extract. But for this recipe, we're going all out, with an all-grain beer-- we extract the sugars from the grain ourselves. The recipe we're following is for a beer in the Belgian white or "wit" sytle. It's called "Wit Ginger, Not Mary Ann," and was published by the esteemed beer-brewing magazine, Zymurgy. Ingredients: 11 pounds of grain 11 quarts of water Our grains include 5 pounds Belgian pilsner malt, 4.5 pounds of German wheat malt, 1.0 pound of flaked oats, and 0.5 pounds of caramel pils malt. Take the mash (all the ingredients above in a pot) and bring it up to 150 degrees F, keeping it at that exact temperature for 1 hour. * Test the mash: The point of mashing is to turn starches in the grain into sugars and extract them into a sweet liquor.

My Favorite Meatloaf This is a recipe from my cookbook, and I’m sharing it here because I love it. I’m tired of meatloaf getting a bad rap. Tired of it, I tell you! Within the pages of my cookbook, I proposed that people’s perception of meatloaf became permanently skewed when a certain disheveled rock singer burst on the scene back in the seventies…but after much consideration, I’ve decided that it’s actually the word “loaf” that has contributed the most to meatloaf being such a maligned food. You didn’t know my cookbook delved into such anthropological and sociological issues, did you? Don’t worry. So open your minds for a moment. See? Oops. It’s like in the movie “Somewhere in Time” where Christopher Reeve (rest his soul) is blissfully living in they year 1912, then discovers the 1979 penny in his pocket and is suddenly and violently sucked back to present day. And now. I know this is a really weird photo, but I’m a really weird person so it fits. Grody, I realize, but bear with me. But you don’t have to.

Martha Stewarts Cookies and Cream Cheesecakes Recipe | La Mia Vita Dolce Posted by Grace Massa Langlois on Wednesday, 21st July 2010 I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t like Oreo cookies or Cream Cheesecake Cupcakes. Who could resist cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies? I went out yesterday to do my weekly shop, came home, and before I was able to bring in the first grocery bag Matt was hunting for the cookies and cream ice cream. One of Matt’s favourite desserts of all time is cherry cheesecake and I thought to myself why not Oreo Cookies and Cream Cheesecakes, that should satisfy his craving. Plus these cheesecakes are super easy to prepare, everything comes together in one bowl and there’s no crushing chocolate wafers with a rolling pin, then melting butter, baking the crust first and then baking a second time when filled. Drop an Oreo cookie into each muffin tin, make filling, add chopped cookies, bake, and enjoy, how easy is that? I can’t wait to try my hand at homemade Oreo cookies. Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Bars & Healthy Food For Living By Lauren Zembron, on June 13th, 2010 I may have mentioned this on the blog before, but I like to make treats for each of my students on their birthdays. Some students request a specific type of cookie, brownie, or bar, and others ask to be surprised. Regardless of what type of goodie I bring in, it is rarely a “healthified” (or “Laurenified”) version. That said, I decided to lighten the recipe for this double batch of Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Bars for my four students with summer birthdays. I divvied up most of the bars evenly between the three birthday boys and one birthday girl, and the rest were packaged up for John to bring in to work. I think I’m going to need to make a smaller batch sometime soon for us to enjoy at home! Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Bars adapted from RecipeGirl; originally from You Made That Dessert? makes 24 medium-sized bars Ingredients: Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Someone Left The Cake Out In The Rain Italian Caprese Sliders – Top 5 in LA Times Battle of the Burgers « Simply Cooking 101 Italian Caprese Sliders I know everyone is probably tired of these, but in honor of their being chosen in the Top 5 by the LA Times Battle of the Burgers, I’m reposting them (for the last time I promise). I’ve made a new batch because I really didn’t like the pictures in the old posts. When I was growing up my father was a true grill man – charcoal only and whatever he was making, there was one beer to splash on the food and one for him! I on the other hand, love my gas grill (and I think dad has one now too) mostly because I’m lazy and don’t want to mess with the charcoal. Of course, dad would probably not been caught making “wimpy” sliders and I am generally prone to enormous burgers stuffed with cheese but as I mentioned in a previous recipe for the Bacon Sliders, my husband brought home a “slider” pan which I determined wasn’t worth much, but I did like the sliders so here’s another variation.
