Colosseum Rome - Pictures in 360 degrees Panorama QTVR Photo From Wikipedia: The Colosseum, or the Coliseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium, Italian Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo), is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering. Occupying a site just east of the Roman Forum, its construction started in 72 AD[1] under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus,[2] with further modifications being made during Domitian's reign (81–96).[3] The name "Amphitheatrum Flavium" derives from both Vespasian's and Titus's family name (Flavius, from the gens Flavia). Capable of seating 50,000 spectators,[4][5] the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The Drakensberg - Dragon Mountains, South Africa Packing for my first trip to the Republic of South Africa, I didn't bother to research all of its sights beforehand. I thought it would be enough to focus on the most famous ones, such as Kruger National Park, Cape Town, Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope, and, of course, Victoria Falls easily accessible by plane, even though it's located outside the Republic of South Africa on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. But, as it usually happens during trips, some things become clear only on the spot. It's funny that most web pages dedicated to the Drakensberg have photos of a very extreme Northern end of Drakensberg range called Blyde River Canyon, which is not in the national park Kwazulu Natal. I don't know about the exact origin of the name, but according to one version, clouds and fog hanging over the slopes of the mountain are reminiscent of a hot steam exhaled by a dragon. Flights are highly dependent on weather conditions. But Dragons mocked me! Photo and text by Dmitry Moiseenko

South Africa's fynbos is the world’s richest floral kingdom South African fynbos grows in a 100km- to 200km-wide coastal belt stretching from the West Coast to the south-east coast. It makes up 80% of the Cape Floral Region, a world of finely branched plants exquisitely adapted to flourish in poor soils and wildly varying rainfall. Did you know? Kirstenbosch is the world's only botanical garden that is part of a World Heritage Site. South African fynbos largely makes up the tiniest floral kingdom in the world. Spread in a narrow cupped crescent, the Cape Floral Kingdom of fynbos is found in a rim along the country's southernmost reaches, never more than 200km from the sea. With Vanrhynsdorp as its far north-western limit, the fynbos biome broadens as it swings south in the vicinity of Cape Town, and narrows eastwards, tailing off near Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape. In this small area, equivalent to a thinly smeared Portugal, there are more than 9 000 plant species, and of those, 70% are endemic. Fynbos, then, is exquisitely concentrated.

The Most South-Western Point of The African Continent The discovery of Cape of Good Hope — a geographic location with one of the most romantic names in the world — is due to Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias. At the end of the 15th century Portugal was literally obsessed with discovering the seaway to India sending one expedition after another. In 1487 this task was entrusted to Dias. His voyage, as well as his predecessors', was filled with adventures, shooting incidents with local tribes, and threats of mutiny from his crew. The debarkation was not easy — the storm almost wrecked their ship on the cliffs. However, the heroic deeds of the explorers were not in vain, as now humanity possesses not only the sea route from Europe to India but also an outstanding tourist "attraction". Centuries later, with the development of cartography, it became clear that "the southernmost point in the continent of Africa" was not the Cape of Good Hope but the Cape Agulhas located 155 km southeast. Even this change didn't go without a trick!

Virtual Tour of Cape Town, South Africa Cape Town is one of the most popular cities on the African continent. It is located in the southwestern part of the continent, on the shore of the Atlantic ocean, near the Cape of Good Hope. The history of Cape Town is also that of the entire country: the history of the Republic of South Africa begins in year 1652, when a Dutch seafarer Jan van Riebeeck founded the city of Cape Town. However, this date is just a mere formality for the city itself: the first settlements in this area date back to over 12 000 years! Nowadays, Cape Town is one of the most attractive resort cities in the world, a wonderful oasis that combines the unique look of Africa with the best accomplishments of the Western civilization. Most of the buildings in the city are only several storeys high, except for the Downtown business area. One can enjoy all of this in a pleasant, mild "Mediterranean" climate. What else is Cape Town famous for? Photography by Dmitry Moiseenko

Voortrekker Monument Pretoria | History The Voortrekker Monument Pretoria stands over 40 meters tall on its hilltop home, and is visible from a large part of Pretoria. It was built to describe the history of the Afrikaner pioneers who left the Cape Colony, where they suffered under British rule, to travel to the interior of the country from 1835 to 1854 on what has come to be known as the Great Trek. Voortrekker Monument Virtual Tour by 360 South Africa Both within and around the monument, every aspect of the building has a historic or symbolic significance. A unique marble Frieze circles the inside walls of the Voortrekker Monument. Cenotaph Hall is located on the lower floor, and is home to the Cenotaph (empty tomb). On 16 December every year the sun shines down through a small hole in the centre of the Voortrekker Monument roof, onto the Cenotaph, lighting up the enscribed words: "Ons vir jou Suid Africa" ("We for thee, South Africa").
