DIY Wall Art: Dreamy Letters

DIY Wall Art: Dreamy Letters
Wall art featuring a special quote or song lyrics is a great DIY project. The words can be very personal like a line from your wedding song or just for fun like what I've done here. In this DIY project, I'll show you how to make these dreamy watercolor letters to spell out anything you like. Here are the supplies you'll need: large canvas board like thiswatercolor paintslarge flat watercolor paint brushwatercolor paperalphabet stencilscissorsgluewater and paper towels Think about the length of the quote when buying the canvas board and stencil. First, decide on a color scheme. Add a second color starting on top of the first one to blend it in. Now just wait for it to dry and flip it over to stencil your quote. Next, cut out the letters. I think this is a great way to fill a large space for little money and when you choose the quote, it will always mean something special to you.

Tutorial for hanging your Mod Podge Lanterns This little tutorial is for Meg! She wrote me asking how to make the hanging system for the little Mod Podge lanterns. Thank you for asking, Meg. So... here is a simple way to make a hanger for your lanterns! Tools are simple! 1. 2. 3. Cut a length of wire that will wrap around the top of the candle twice plus extra for the hanging loop. Plop the double loop of wire down over the jar opening. Bend the long end of the wire 90 degrees. Make a bend in the other end of the long wire - mine is about 1 1/2" from bend to tip of wire. Catch the loop you just made under the two wire loops surrounding the opening. Now using your fingers and the needle nose pliers, if needed, bring the loop wire around behind the hanger and bend and twist into a nice little "knot" as shown. On the opposite side of the opening, draw the wires tightly against the surface of the jar and create another little twisted knot as you see was done on the right side in this image. Done!

The Hipster Home » Blog Archive » How to Make a Tiny Terrarium in a Light Bulb Ahoy there Hipster Homers! I’m Julie and I’m the very first guest blogger on this fine site. Today’s project involves breaking stuff, plants, found objects, and miniatures. Fun, right? Let’s get started! We’re going to go through the steps to create your very own little terrarium. Dos and Don’ts: Do use sand or small pebbles; these are good because water drains through them easily. How To: You’ll need a few tools to make a tiny terrarium but nothing complicated to get started. Needle-nose pliersScissorsLong tweezers or chopsticksFlathead screwdriverGlasses or goggles Let’s start with the light bulb. We will be removing the inside parts of the lightbulb. First, remove the metal tip from the bottom of the bulb. Then, when enough of the sides are raised to get a good grip on them, hold one of the sides with your pliers and yank out the metal tip. Next remove the black glass. Now you will be able to see the interior parts of the light bulb. Pull out any remaining wires with the pliers.

10 Unconventional Ways to Style a Braid Braids have been the rage for a while now, and we’re totally on board. We already use braid techniques all the time in our DIY projects, why not bring them back to beauty? Here are 10 creative takes on the classic braid, inspired by looks found on the red carpet, Pinterest, and here at Brit HQ. 1. For this look, we were inspired by a shot of Ciara Harris rocking blond ombre locks with a sneaky little fishtail braid thrown into the mix. 2. Side braids can look glamorous too! 3. Instead of a simple bun, why not add a few fishtail details to the whole affair? 4. Pinterest and the blogging community went nuts when the waterfall braid hit the scene, so we had to give it a try. 5. This one of the most classic braid looks around, and we particularly love how it looks on Scarlett Johansson. 6. You read that right. 7. This one was inspired by Blake Lively‘s recent penchant for rocking serious fishtail braids. 8. Gwen Stefani knows how to rock a pair of cornrows. 9. Three braids within a braid!

Snail Shell Candles I love a good movie. Some movies have scenes so inspiring, tragic, or just so well-staged, that they are tattooed into my eyeballs forever after seeing them. The English Patient came out when I was in High School. To make a path of burning snail shell candles which will lead your lover to a barn where you wait in the shadows, you will need the following: - Escargot shells - Braided candle wick thread - Standard wick tabs (the metal base) - Pliers - Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue Sticks - 1 pound block bees wax - Double boiler, or metal bowl and saucer of boiling water - Empty egg cartons - Funnel - Paper towels or napkins - Barn - Lover After picking up a container of escargot snail shells (and meats!) I made sure I was working on a surface that would be easy to clean up, and wouldn’t get damaged by any spilled wax (If you are not sure how well your surface will clean up, put a sheet of aluminum foil, or wax paper under your egg carton of snail shells.) Next, I inserted the wicks into each shell.

- StumbleUpon 08.09.09 | by Erik Anderson Whether it’s product branding, package design or projects for ourselves, we’re pleased when we find a solution that’s very effective and creative, while keeping resources to a minimum. This idea is very inexpensive idea and it’s a great way to recycle a wine bottle. See how this simple idea inspired this brand and wine bottle design. It’s been a record year for mosquitoes here in Indianapolis, Indiana and I’d been wanting to add some Tiki-esque torches to the patio to combat the little buggers, and add a little ambiance. Here’s what you’ll need. Empty Wine Bottle (Use any bottle as long as it’s glass and the neck is 1” in diameter. Helpful Tools: Channellocks, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, power screwdriver, and a funnel. Safety Note: This is for outdoor use only. Building Instructions The Hanger Decide where you want to mount your Recycled Bottle Torch. The Bottle Carefully and tightly wrap the 1/2-inch end of the Coupling with your Teflon Tape. Good Luck! -Erik
