We celebrated Earth Day this past week. This observance has been around for a while now, and back in the 70′s I was occasionally assigned to cover some of the events. I shot the above for UPI one year, at an Earth Day observance at the UN. I recall it being the usual, uh, cluster….k, in NY press terminology, with all the papers, the wires, and the TV folks angling for angles and exclusives. I was working for the formidable drill instructor of editors, Larry DeSantis, or LD, as we called him, who told me in no uncertain terms to get the muckety-mucks. In color. This past week on the Charles Bridge in Prague, I touched this image, below the statue of St. The folks at Lastolite are pretty cool, especially their chief designer, Gary Astill. Biography After studying painting and graphic design at Cooper Union and Yale, Jay Maisel began his career in photography in 1954. While his portfolio includes the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Miles Davis, he is perhaps best known for capturing the light, color, and gesture found in every day life. This unique vision kept him busy for over 40 years shooting annual reports, magazine covers, jazz albums, advertising and more for an array of clients worldwide. Some of his commercial accomplishments include five Sports Illustrated swimsuit covers, the first two covers of New York Magazine, the cover of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue (the best-selling jazz album of all time), twelve years of advertising with United Technologies, and a litany of awards from such organizations as ICP, ASMP, ADC, PPA, and Cooper Union.

Spotlight on Brian Clark I was assigned to shoot video and stills for the homecoming of the Oak Hill on Little Creek Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach. It wasn’t a particularly significant homecoming; the crew had only been away for 90 days. In fact, there was another homecoming in our area for sailors who had been through two different deployments in Iraq. What sparked our interest was that the news release said there would be a surprise that we wouldn't want to miss. The director of photography, Randy Greenwell, asked if I would do both stills and video, which I've done before, but on this day I had a new video camera I'd never used before, not to mention I was a suffering from a mild case of the flu.

Canon 1DX vs Nikon D4: Image Quality When Nikon came out with the D3 and later the D3s, Canon lost its supremacy at high ISO. I was curios to test the 1DX vs the new Nikon D4 to see if Canon has brought back the title of high ISO king! The Nikon D4 is a relatively conservative update of the D3s; it offers a bit more resolution, 1 FPS faster continuous shooting, much better video and other improvements.
