The 5 Most Terrifying Civilizations In The History of the World They say that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it, so pay attention for Christ's sake. It turns out that many of our ancestors achieved levels of violence that take them right out of the realm of "badass" and into the less cool area of ball-shriveling atrocity. These are the civilizations you don't want to face during, say, your next time travel adventure. And yes, the Spartans are down there. History is kind of spotty on the Celts (they never wrote anything down, and many of the witnesses died brutally) but what facts survived confirm one thing: They had gigantic Celtic balls. First of all, they had a thing for severed heads. If they felt that yours was a head of particular importance, they'd embalm it and whip it out at parties to brag about how awesome they were. The reason for all of these head-chopping-good-times was that the Celts believed that the head held the soul, and so if you cut a dead guy's head off before all of that juicy soul leaked out of it, it was yours.

Monster Page of Halloween Project Links Because you can't have too many tutus. Liz and I are busily sewing our brains out to share our fall “look book” collections in a week or so. But, in the meantime, we do have a few projects that have been sitting on the back shelves. I am currently three outfits down and three to go, with bits and pieces in between like blind-stitch hemming (I don’t know why but I dislike blind-stitch hemming, so I always leave it until the end, even with the nifty foot– I am weird.) But I am totally stuck at finding a girls’ navy blue skinny belt for one of my dresses…..anyone seen lately? In other news, enjoy a quick and easy project…..from this summer that I never posted. We had a seventh birthday party around here a month or so ago. I wish I were great about big elaborate parties…..but I am not. We did do one simple crafts for all of our little dollies: American Girl Doll Tutus. (I kind of feel silly even writing a tutorial for this….but I did…..because I am lame.) Supplies: And here’s what you do… ~Elizabeth

Blisstree Values: where tech and handmade converge The tools will change. Your values can stay the same. Tweet this! A friend of mine recently said this at a tech conference talk, but I think it’s applicable in so many places. Things change. The stock market goes up and down. In fact, the whole talk reminded me of the handmade community, specifically the conversations happening over at Oh My! This conference was about a specific technology, Ruby, but, like most things, being a Ruby software developer is really more mixed-media than any one particular craft. We are a community. Ruby programmers, just like indie crafters, are a community. Sharing Tech-wise, we’re all about Open Source. Elegance and beauty Does it seem strange to you that nerdy, pocket-protector engineers care about beauty and elegance? Having an impact You may have heard about Google’s motto: Don’t be evil. Fundamentally, both tech and handmade have had to reconcile the need for money and the need to make and be creative. Your customers see your authenticity and values.

DIY Chan Luu Bracelet My goal this holiday season was to really try my best to make some homemade gifts. So far I’m doing pretty well with my wreath, some burlap covered candles, some personalized coasters and this past weekend I gave a try at some jewelry. You may have noticed how wrap bracelets are everywhere lately. Chan Luu bracelets are extremely popular these days. They come in singles and also in wraps. I love love the look of these bracelets. I did the top bracelet by simply following this tutorial. 1. 2.Bring your needle up under the right cord through the center and pull the thread through. 3. 4. You will just continue to do this for every bead. I love my followers so come and join!! Like this: Like Loading...
