7 Tips for HD Color Correction and DSLR Color Correction

7 Tips for HD Color Correction and DSLR Color Correction
Color correction is just one step of the entire filmmaking process…but oh, what a difference it can make. You can take average footage and really make it pop, sing and enhance the viewing experience of your project. If you have excellent footage, then the sky is the limit. You can also make images look garish, ugly and destroy all the hard work the crew did to capture those images on the day of the shoot. To get on the same page, let’s quickly go over some terminology that clarifies what is what in this realm. COLOR CORRECTION is the process where every clip is manually tweaked to get a good exposure and balance of light. COLOR GRADING is the creative process where decisions are made to further enhance or establish a new visual tone to the project through software including: introducing new color themes, re-lighting within a frame, films stock emulations, color gradients and a slew of other choices. missing sequence presets or codec This is still an issue as of this morning. It's happened to me twice in one month for no apparent reason. From what I'm reading, it's happening more often with the Creative Cloud. Both times, I had to uninstall Premiere Pro, reinstall it, and install the latest updates. During the failure, it renders existing projects, that worked minutes before, completely ununsable. Today's solution was a complete uninstall of all CS6 products, running the cleaner and rebooting twice, reinstalling, and updating. Many hours later, everything's back to "normal," and my original Premiere Pro projects now function properly. This is a very serious bug that shouild be addressed immediately, please!!

Cinematic Look, Part 3: Dynamic Range | Shutter Angle Images are all about light. Light is captured, transferred through the various storage and processing stages of the workflow and finally reproduced for viewing. The adventures of scene light on its way to the viewer of the final images have some implications for the cinematic look. More precisely, this article is about the dynamic range of the image capturing medium. The differences in the dynamic range of film and digital camera sensors are explained. We also get to talk a bit about transfer curves and gamma. Scene dynamic range Dynamic range and dynamic range transfer is one of the often misunderstood concepts in video and film, maybe because it is a bit technical. Human vision has a curious characteristic. The logarithmic concept of light stops fits well with the workings of our vision and is widely adopted in photography. Film dynamic range Film density Some familiarity with the concept of density is necessary in order to understand film dynamic range. Dynamic range of digital video

Miguel Cobo | Photographer, DoP, Colorist. Me explico. ¿Que nos ofrece Lightroom Mobile?

Getting started with the Blackmagic Camera raw in Davinci Resolve The Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera is all set to revolutionise the indy filmmaker scene. I have been using it for a few months and love it. The new firmware that enables AVID DNX HD and IS support on Canon lenses and the recent announcement of the MFT version makes the camera even more attractive. I am taking it to South Africa this week (J’Burg, Cape Town, Durban) for my workshops ( a few tickets left for the large group ones are available so hurry up! The camera comes with Davinci Resolve V9, but you can get the almost as good lite version for free here! My friend and excellent colourist from Smoke and Mirrors (and formerly BMD), Dan Moran has done a fantastic getting-started tutorial with Resolve for free.
