Social media optimization Social media optimization (SMO) is the use of a number of outlets and communities to generate publicity to increase the awareness of a product, service brand or event. Types of social media involved include RSS feeds, social news and bookmarking sites, as well as social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, video sharing websites and blogging sites. SMO is similar to search engine optimization, in that the goal is to generate web traffic and to a site and increase awareness for a website. In general, social media optimization refers to optimizing a website and its content to encourage more users to use and share links to the website across social media and networking sites. The goal of SMO is to strategically create interesting online content, ranging from well-written text to eye-catching digital photos or video clips that encourages and entices people to engage with a website and then share this content, via its weblink, with their social media contacts and friends.

Radio Station Guide Advertise on LinkedIn with their DirectAds If you are looking to target professionals, or I should say individuals when they are in a professional mode, LinkedIn has what they call DirectAds. There are advertising networks, which by definition typically mean that they aggregate websites to provide reach across a network of sites. These sites can be organized by industry, genre, demograhics etc. Ad Types The advertisements are text ads, not banners, however much like Google Adwords you receive a title, description and a link to your site or landing page. LinkedIn Network The DirectAds page states that their community is over 26 million, however the LinkedIn subscribe page as of today boasts over 30 million. Small Budget With their DirectAds program you can sign up, create your advertisement, and get started with a deposit as low as $25. Targeting The targeting is interesting, you can target locally, those within a certain distance of your business. Location of the Advertisement Your advertisement is provided “above the fold”.

Tweet This! A Twitter Manifesto by Randy Gage Home | Blog | Tweet This! A Twitter Manifesto By Randy Gage in Success, Prosperity. So last December I loaded up the car with books, CDs and ebooks, and went down to spend a week in Key West. My mission: to discover the truth about Web 2.0 and the exploding social media sites. If you read “Tribes,” (and if not, what the Hell is the matter with you?) Twitter is blowing up right now, so let’s look at it first, and we’ll explore the others in future posts. While many see and use Twitter as purely another social medium, I’ve found that a broad and growing range of users there seem to view it more as a business network. In the few months I’ve been Twittering, I’m shocked with how enjoyable it can be, how helpful it is as a business resource, and how readily you can monetize it. Now I should note that I approach my Twittering the same way I do this Blog, my email newsletters and websites… The 7 Twitter Critters you don’t want to be… 1) The TMI Guy 2) The Plagiarizer Twit 3) The Reply Guy P.S.

But the editors have really surprised me lately with an apparent emerging theme: online social networking meets transportation. Articles have covered everything from social media sites to find taxi cab ride-sharers, to parcel package shipments addressed merely by twitter id#s, to facebook flight updates, to identifying fellow active twitterers in your airport. As social networking sites continue to expand beyond mere casual social contact into hubs of information, it makes sense that users would want to receive personal transportation and shipment updates while in-site. But I put it to you – do you want to have immediately available, in your facebook and twitter pages, info about your package shipments, flights and train arrivals and departures, taxi cabs and availability? Second Life solidarity: IBM faces first virtual picket IBM is a major investor in its presence in Second Life and was one of the first companies to set up a large presence there. Reports have estimated that is has spent $10 million on its Second Life facilities. IBM workers in Italy have been protesting over pay. They had asked for a salary increase of €60, plus improvements to pension and health rights, according to union representatives at IBM in Italy. Union official say that the company responded by cancelling a €1,000 per employee 'productive work benefit'. UNI, an international affiliation of trades unions that is backing the action, said that the dispute involves 9,000 workers and that it has spent the past few days training protesters in how to use Second Life. "We held training sessions until today allowing people to join Second Life and get protest kits for their avatars," Christine Revkin of UNI told OUT-LAW.COM. Revkin said that Second Life had been chosen because it was a place where IBM had been investing significantly.
