Working in the robotics and vision department is quiet cool. We already worked on many projects together. One day, at a kick off meeting for one of our clients, we were asked for 3D visualizing data. As typically, we answered with classics like “that might be difficult because…”, “that’s not possible because…”, “that will take a some time because…” etc. ! We saw that there seemed to be a lot of reasons not having the appropriate digital models at the moment for our clients.

ReconstructMe and Realistic 3D Scans May 10, 2012 in Scanning by Tim Owens I’ve been playing recently with a great new piece of software called ReconstructMe which is free for now and Windows only. It uses the Xbox Kinect (an incredibly worthwhile investment for 3D scanning) to create 3D models. 3D Scan 2.0 Scanning The only things you need are our framework, the Kinect and some AR markers. Therefor we constructed some Scan Tablets Point Cloud After scanning the object you get a colored point cloud. See more point clouds in our 3D Gallery ! KiCad EDA Software Suite - Kicad EDA - KiCad EDA KiCad is an EDA software suite for the creation of professional schematics and printed circuit boards up to 32 copper layers with additional technical layers. KiCad runs on Windows, Linux and Apple OS X and is released under the open-source GNU GPL v2 free of charge. If you like KiCad or are making a good living using KiCad in your toolset, you should consider donating funds used for development.

2011-07-20 Calgary Real Wall-e Robot - Blog - DJ Sures 2011-07-20 Calgary Real Wall-e Robot I thoroughly enjoyed building this robot. I really needed a break from all of the programming I've been doing for everyone else lately. So I finally made time to set the afternoon aside to build this Wall-E. He's not just any ordinary Wall-E (if there was an ordinary Wall-E?) Hmmm. Blender 2.67 RC1 and DVD Training Blender for 3D Printing Released April 28, 2013 Open-source 3D creation suite Blender has released the first Release Candidate of Blender 2.67. Major improvements are the inclusion of FreeStyle, subsurface scattering for Cycles, optimizations in the motion tracker and the new 3D printing toolkit. The new 3D printing toolkit is a collection of useful tools including statistics, error checking, cleanup and export, to make it easier to export models for 3D printing. Statistics: The volume of the mesh and the combined area of all faces are calculated.

Using Kinfu Large Scale to generate a textured mesh This tutorial demonstrates how to use KinFu Large Scale to produce a mesh (in meters) from a room, and apply texture information in post-processing for a more appealing visual result. The first part of this tutorial shows how to obtain the TSDF cloud from KinFu Large Scale. The second part shows how to convert the TSDF cloud into a uniform mesh. The third part shows how to texture the obtained mesh using the RGB images and poses we obtained from KinFu Large Scale. TSDF Cloud This section describes the TSDF Cloud, which is the expected output of KinFu Large Scale.

KiCadLib: Device and Footprint Library for KiCad This is a collection of electronic device symbols and footprints for KiCad which is used by other projects on Please leave a comment, if you find this library useful! Download The library can be downloaded from github at Be aware that the latest version of KiCad uses different internal units (mm instead of deci-mills) and thus footprints designed in the latest version are incompatible with older versions. Therefore, two branches exist in the git repository: master for the latest KiCad version, deci-mills for older versions.
