Just when I think I’ve seen them all, I come across a new one that I love, like this version created by Heather Jennings of Poppy Haus. While browsing her local Anthropologie store, Heather was inspired by two things: the ingenuity of the displays, all made with simple, everyday materials, and the Rhododendron Chandelier. Adorned with handmade, sculptural paper flowers, the chandelier is amazing, but at $898, Heather thought it would it be the perfect candidate for a DIY variation. Luckily, Heather stumbled upon decorative cupcake liners with an optical, graphic print that provided the perfect amount of depth and texture. By layering them over plain liners, she was able to create a beautiful effect on these orb lights; the organic, anemone-like shapes look lovely up close, far away, unlit during the day and glowing from within at night. the ambitious procrastinator: DIY Pendant Light - Part II Previously on The Ambitious Procrastinator: I was working on the beginning stages of turning these lovely hand blown drinking glasses into a pendant light fixture. I drilled holes in the bottom, attached hardware and now on to lighting it up. To do that I made yet another trip to Home Depot to purchase: Replacement Lamp Cord (Silver): $4.98 Lamp Cord (Silver): $0.30 /lf (Westinghouse Home Depot) I already had the white electrical tape, and yellow wire nuts. This part went by quite smoothly, I honestly thought it would take longer. I took one end of the cord and split the two wires and stripped about 1/2" - 3/4" of the plastic coating to expose the wires. Tie the two wires in a little simple knot, and fist the other end through the circle at the end of the bulb socket like dis. Ok, now the IMPORTANT part. Just as a pro-caution, I've read to wrap electrical work in electrical tape. I also did a test run to see if everything was in working order.
10 Rooms: A Lighting DIY: The New Chandelier So having always loved these and after seeing how Jen made hers something more like this is in the budget.. There are a few different tutorials kicking around for this one, but I ended up doing something a bit different. Having never wired anything before, I wanted to be sure that this was not going to be a fire hazard! (and thought that using a pre-made pendant light might just save a whole lot of time) so I bought one of these.. two bottles of fabric stiffener and a heaps of white cotton yarn. We had an exercise ball kicking around (I am not co-ordinated enough for one of these - truly :) So it was off to the races. TIP: Cover your work area in plastic before you start, and secure that plastic to the surface. You will be glad you did. removed the top piece from the shade.. this will give the finished product extra strength and keep the bulb in place. Marked a circle for the hole you need to leave for placing the electrical and bulbs inside later. Keep it fairly high, and it won't be noticable. So.

Supplies Needed Homemade Fabric Stiffener Recipe 300ml PVA Wood Glue 8 Tbsp Cornflour 1/2 Cup Warm Water - In a small cup mix the cornstarch and warm water until dissolved. - Tip the cornflour into the container you will be using and add the wood glue. - Stir to combine. *This should be more than enough glue for a 50cm string pendant light. Material necessário: - Um novelo de lã - Cola branca (PVA) - Um bola para ser molde Modo de preparo: - Numa vasilha coloque a lã e a quantidade de cola necessária para que toda a lã tenha cola, feito isso, enrole a linha na bola e ponha para secar, depois de pronta retire a bola que serviu de molde e esta pronta sua luminária. Dica: Para utilizar a luminária você pode por arame na borda da luminária para encaixar num bocal de lâmpada, ou por no fundo da luminária um bocal para poder pendurar.

Ateliê do Lixo: Luminárias novas! Andei pesquisando usos diferentes para os rolinhos de jornal e estou gostando dos resultados. Fazendo rolinhos grossos e firmes, com uma folha inteira (das duplas), dá para montar estruturas consistentes e duráveis. Essas luminárias foram feitas apenas com rolinhos fixados com cola quente, sem nenhum outro elemento de sustentação, e ficaram perfeitamente firmes. Um segura o outro e o outro segura o um. Minha inspiração foram os ninhos de guacho, um passarinho escultor. Tá, vão me perguntar como fazer...
