MICHAEL WOLF PHOTOGRAPHY all images copyright michael wolf Meet Bob Gruen: Bugle Player for the Clash and Photographer of Rock Royalty The Clash, 1979 The most important thing about Bob Gruen is that he played bugle for the Clash. The second is that he shot a bunch of the most iconic rock and roll photos of the 20th century. John Lennon hired him as his personal photographer in the 1970s, which resulted in that picture of Lennon in the New York City shirt that your dad probably has framed somewhere. He also took the picture of Sid Vicious bleeding from a cut up chest that you probably have unframed somewhere. And on one special night in 1975, he took a picture of Mick Jagger’s giant penis. Bob Dylan, 1975 Gruen got into music photography in the mid-60s while living in Greenwich Village. Bob was the first photojournalist to document the Dolls in any real way. New York Dolls on the Real Don Steele Show, 1973 VICE: How did you first meet the New York Dolls? I went down to the Mercer Arts Centre and was totally blown away. New York Dolls at Mercer Arts Center, 1972 What was the first live show you saw like? The Clash, 1976

18 Captivating Photos By The Mysterious Nanny-Photographer Of The Mid-Century Dan Wilton explores the golden age of porn in his (obviously NSFW) latest shoot Normally we associate Dan Wilton with the music industry. His bread and butter work involves trailing some of the most exciting new musicians across the globe and documenting their antics for us mere mortals to enjoy. When he’s not doing that you can invariably find him making normal people look exciting, turning football fans and Repton boxers alike into iconic individuals with the swift click of his shutter. But Dan’s gone off-piste with his latest shoot, recreating the aesthetic of 1970s porno for the new issue of Vice. Dan’s work also features in the latest issue of Printed Pages, available here!

I Photographed a Former 'Survivor' Contestant at the Lowest Point in His Life This story was recounted to Mike Pearl by the photographer Jennifer Rovero. "I was doing this series called 'Invited,' where if anyone invited me into their lives, I had to go, no matter what the situation was. So my friend Shane [Powers, who was a contestant on Survivor: Panama] said to me, 'Well I’ll do it. I invite you, but I want to be naked.' His father had died not long ago, and his girlfriend had just broken up with him." "So I went over there without having told anyone where I was. "There he was, on the ground, bloodied, because he had fallen when he came down to get me. When I walked into his house, he didn’t say hi or anything. "At one point he got out this container, and poured it out, and then sort of slumped over. "We went in his bedroom, and he wanted to show me his manscaping. "At one point he got really close and grabbed me by the back of the head, and he was like 'you’re a really hot fucking photographer.' "He really wanted these photos.
