The Court of Justice of the European Union today declared that the Data Retention Directive is incompatible with the Union's Charter of Fundamental Rights after a reference by Irish and Austrian courts. The Court found that the Directive "entails an interference with the fundamental rights of practically the entire European population", concluding that there is a "is there a general absence of limits" in the legislation. The Pirate Party are calling for the complete abolition of the Data Retention Directive and similar laws in the United Kingdom and across the European Union...

Pirate Party UK The Pirate Party UK (often abbreviated PPUK; in Welsh: Plaid Môr-leidr DU) is a political party in the United Kingdom.[4] The Pirate Party's core policies are to bring about reform to Copyright and Patent laws, support privacy and reduce surveillance from government and businesses, and guarantee genuine freedom of speech for everyone.[5][6] The Pirate Party UK contested its first election in 2010, standing 9 candidates in the 2010 General Election, and also stood in the 2011 Oldham East and Saddleworth and 2012 Manchester Central by-elections. The highest number of votes the party has achieved to date is 5.2% by Loz Kaye when standing in the Manchester Bradford Ward during the 2012 Local Elections. In parliamentary elections the party has generally received less than 1% of the vote. They have indicated they do not expect to be elected, and that they are just trying to raise awareness.[7] Pirate Party UK leader Loz Kaye

Winnipeg North first Canadian battleground for Pirate Party A 25-year-old Winnipeg businessman is the first Pirate Party of Canada candidate to run for federal election. Jeff Coleman, a former ESL teacher who owns a design and 3-D company, is running in the upcoming federal by-election on November 29 in Winnipeg North. His plan: to take to the streets of his home riding to engage voters in issues that surround the digital age. Coleman plans to campaign on his party’s key principles: confidentiality on the internet, intellectual copyright and patent law reform, keeping the internet democratic and free and using the web to make government practices and information available to the public. Narrating the Aberration. Democracy is best defined, in my opinion, by Lincoln’s timeless phrase from his Gettysburg Address as ‘government of the people, by the people, for the people’. The key phrase in this definition is ‘the people’. It is a bit sparse but that eliminates any opening for sophistry or legalistic parsing or, heaven forfend, theological mental reservations.

Winning the Oil Endgame-Homepage n 2004, Rocky Mountain Institute's Chief Scientist, Chairman and Co-founder Amory Lovins and a team of RMI collaborators accomplished a highly complex and innovative task—the drafting of a roadmap for the United States to get completely off oil by 2050, led by business for profit. The result became a thoroughly researched, highly analytical yet practical book called "Winning the Oil Endgame" (WTOE). Following its release, RMI began working with key industry stakeholders to accelerate key components of the WTOE strategy. To aid in its implementation, RMI raised $3.6 million from private donors and foundations. This has led to many critical projects, including: Supporting the initial stages of Walmart's efforts with its suppliers to increase the efficiency of the firm's new heavy trucks by 25 percent through 2008 (the actual reduction in fuel intensity vs. 2005 was 38 percent), and to set a goal of doubled efficiency by 2015.
