Design is the balance of elements to create a visual message and nothing does it better than the propaganda poster. It’s not just looking at examples as many propaganda posters break the rules of the real world. Propaganda is a message that may or may not be true but it convinces people to see its message and persuade them that it IS the truth. *Author’s note: Posters are presented solely as examples of design and in no way promote, excuse, or highlight fascism, communism, patriotism, or any other “ism” that exists or has existed. Some examples of powerful images War propaganda has included the most notable images in the history of coercion. Heroic and bold! On top of powerful images, twisting stereotypes dehumanize the target enemy. Of course, using heart-wrenching emotion, guilt, furor, and death are great motivators. A Comparison of Instagram for Android and iPhone Today saw the arrival of one of the most anticipated Android apps in recent memory, with the launch of Instagram. The app is hugely popular on the iPhone and got some 430K signups on its pre-release signup page for Google’s OS. Now that it’s out, we decided to put it through its paces to see how the Android flavor compares against the one that iPhone users have grown to know and love. We found that much of the aesthetic had been ported over from iOS, with just a few concessions to Android user interface conventions. There are a few interesting details, however. The odd sizes of the screenshots are due to the differing sizes in the screens of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which I used to test Instagram for Android, and the iPhone. The home screen is nearly identical on both platforms, but there have been some tweaks to the tab bar, including a redesigned camera button and the standard Android ‘active bar’ on the current tab. Next up is the Profile screen. ➤ Instagram for Android

Google Updates Analytics with Real-Time Segmenting Google updated its Analytics service in August, including a new feature that segments real-time data in reports so that users can track marketing campaigns as they move forward. The segmenting update allows a user to click on a dimension in a real-time report, in order to track data by that metric. A user could, for instance, click to select referral information, and then segment that information by visitor source or traffic channel. Another possible use is to click on a city name to segment data by that city. Shortcut to Data The company said this allows a user, for instance, to measure which content is most popular in a large metropolitan area. Other use cases include following the results of a geographically-targeted pay-per-click campaign, or seeing how social media might be affecting site traffic after an industry conference. Another recent update to Analytics provides the ability to create Shortcuts in order to more quickly find a particular path to data. API for Multi-Channel Funnels
