Are You Living in a Computer Simulation? Many works of science fiction as well as some forecasts by serious technologists and futurologists predict that enormous amounts of computing power will be available in the future. Let us suppose for a moment that these predictions are correct. One thing that later generations might do with their super-powerful computers is run detailed simulations of their forebears or of people like their forebears. Apart form the interest this thesis may hold for those who are engaged in futuristic speculation, there are also more purely theoretical rewards. The structure of the paper is as follows. A common assumption in the philosophy of mind is that of substrate-independence. Arguments for this thesis have been given in the literature, and although it is not entirely uncontroversial, we shall here take it as a given. The argument we shall present does not, however, depend on any very strong version of functionalism or computationalism. We shall develop this idea into a rigorous argument. Writing .

Ffffound Underground This is every kid’s dream. Imagine traveling through a local forest and coming across an abandoned military pillbox with an open hatch leading to a massive bunker rife for exploration. You and your buddies drop inside the hatch and discover that this bunker is enormous and build into parts of an abandoned quarry complex as you end up descending a five-story concrete staircase into the underground lair. Now for the best part. Not only are you having a blast pretending to be Indiana Jones exploring a once-secret military bunker, you come across abandoned military equipment! You first come across a rusting pair of German 77-mm cannons from World War I. Well as the photos above and below show, if you can make your way to France and find this bunker that’s been used on and off since around World War I for everything from military purposes to mushroom farming, you can have this expereience. The ERC-90 armed recon vehicle greets you. One of those German guns from World War I. Inside the APC.

This Awesome Urn Will Turn You into a Tree After You Die | Design for Good You don't find many designers working in the funeral business thinking about more creative ways for you to leave this world (and maybe they should be). However, the product designer Gerard Moline has combined the romantic notion of life after death with an eco solution to the dirty business of the actual, you know, transition. His Bios Urn is a biodegradable urn made from coconut shell, compacted peat and cellulose and inside it contains the seed of a tree. Once your remains have been placed into the urn, it can be planted and then the seed germinates and begins to grow. I, personally, would much rather leave behind a tree than a tombstone. Editor's Note: The Bios Urn is a patented design of Estudimoline, the design company of Gerard Moline, a Catalan artist and product designer who designed Bio Urn for animals in 1999.

Icicles of Brick - English Russia This abandoned Russian fortress is probably one of the creepiest places I have seen. The reason for it to have such a strange look is because it was used later by Russian army to test the influence of Russian alternative to napalm inside of the brick houses. Due to very high temperature of napalm the bricks started melting just like ice melts in the spring forming the icicles, but those icicles are of red brick. via tbsf Magento: Getting product attributes values and labels I have found that it is very useful to be able to get attributes from the system and use them in places other than a products category page. I always forget the exact syntax to use so, this is going to be my unofficial cheat sheet. This is how to get a drop down lists options. I don’t think it will work for a mulit-select attribute. 1. 2.foreach ( $attribute->getSource()->getAllOptions(true, true) as $option){ 3. I had a trickier time getting values for a multi-select attribute. 01. 02. 03.foreach($attributes as $a){ 04.if($a->getAttributeCode() == 'desired_attribute_code'){ 05.foreach($a->getSource()->getAllOptions(false) as $option){ 06. Here is a better way to get the multi-select attribute values. 1. 2. 3. 4. If you only need to retrieve a value for a product you can try this way 2. I added this code snip it below to possibly answer a question that was posted. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Entity Type Id’s $entityType is an integer id for what type of entity the attribute is associated to. 02. 04. 08. 09. 10. 11. 12. 15. 19.

Ghost Military Camp - English Russia Scary pictures of a deserted military camp abandoned in 2005. Pass the checkpoint and follow the concrete road leading to the camp. In the very center there are 2 five-floor houses. There was a time when children were playing here… And now only stalkers are wandering. Ruins… It’s hard to believe people lived here just some years ago. View from a balcony. Direct SQL Queries In Magento | Magento Development Tutorials This entry was posted on July 2, 2010 by BT. Magento's use of data models provide a great way to access and modify data. Using aptly named methods and clever abstraction, Varien hide away the complex SQL needed to perform data operations. While this makes learning models easier, it often impacts the speed of the operation and therefore the responsiveness of your site. This is especially true when saving models that use the EAV architecture. More often that not, this cannot be avoided, however there are some situations where executing direct SQL queries would be simpler and much quicker. Database Connections In Magento By default, Magento will automatically connect to it's database and provide two separate resources which you can use to access data: core_read and core_write. Table names and table prefixes When installing Magento, you are given the option to use a table prefix. Get a table name from a string Get a table name from an entity name Reading From The Database Writing To The Database

Magento: reload color images for configurable product | Baobaz Blog Let's talk about one situation. We are in shop made in Magento. We are on configurable product page. One of configurable attributes is color. First we must do some preparations: Create attribute "image_storing" type boolean and add it to your attribute sets. For each color of superproduct (configurable+simples) choose one simple product and set value to yes, also to this product upload images of this color. Now create new module called "imageswitch" (or whatever you want, just remember to change it in the following code). In it you must have a controller looking like this: This controller will reload the whole media block, but for that we also need proper layout xml file imageswitch.xml <? and a layout html file - page/empty.phtml <! Then we need to add some observer to catalog/product/view.phtml so we can reload it when the value of color is changed (attribute76 is the id of select for attribute color, it's default id if we use standard Magento attribute, if changed, may need adjusting)
