Hair volume how-to
Posted September 26, 2011 | 10 Comments Have you ever wondered how to get more volume in your hair? Today we’re going to show you how to achieve that thicker, fuller look for your wedding day – and beyond – with a few of our favorite tutorials. I have always admired voluminous hair in magazines and photo shoots wishing that I, too, had lustrous, voluminous hair. Then I realized something: I can keep wishing for more volume or I can make it happen. Voluminous hair is the result of a few key essentials like a good diet (high protein can lead to healthier, thicker hair with less breakage), plenty of H20, proper blow-drying techniques (here’s a video to get you started), plenty of hairspray, and abundant amounts of teasing, product-applying, and styling. image via keiko lynn You may remember the next image from our braided hairstyles round-up a few months back. Although she has an unfair advantage (her hair is gorgeous to begin with), she styles it from this… …to this: It looks beautiful!

shampoo free EmailEmail “No Poo” is a nickname for going shampoo free… Everyone has a different experience when ditching shampoo. Here is Amber’s story…. And you can read mine here! So I decided to stop using shampoo and jump on this tiny “no poo shampoo” train that was starting. Still. So this is when I decided to do a little experiment. Week One Okay, so this is bad. Why baking soda? The first week was horrible (I wore a lot of ponytails) but I kept telling myself eventually my scalp and hair would detox and recalibrate. Week Two Okay, getting a little better but yes, my hair still looks like crap. However, another problem had cropped up. to my 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and the itch was gone immediately. Week Three By the end of the third week I could see that it really was going to work. Week Four By the end of the fourth week something funny began to happen. Week Five By week five suddenly there was a huge change. Week Six So after six weeks my hair is looking better than it has in years.

Accessories Tutorial - Simple 3 Twists Hairstyle First, a little back story: I was on Pinterest (I know, big surprise) awhile back and Ms. Ez from Creature Comforts pinned a fun messy hair-do, and mentioned she needed to learn how to do it. So I piped in that I should show her how. I have been wanting to do a hair tutorial for ages now, so this was the perfect reason to get it done. So here it is, my first hair tutorial, wahoo! It is best to start with 1-2 (even 3) day old hair that has a little wave to it. Next you will want a little lift through the roots. So now we have the hair looking a little fuller, and the front styled the way we want it to look in the end. Split your hair into three sections, pulling the sides in front of your shoulders, leaving just one section in the back. Lift the back section up and backcomb at the base. Take the section and twist once like shown. Next take the second section and hold it out to the side like shown. Twist the section once loosely right next to the first twist, like shown in the picture.

beach waves I'm one of those people who was cursed with stick straight thin hair that hates to curl. I used to do the traditional "braid your hair before bed" and rag curling tricks to get nice beachy waves, but they never ended up turning out right the next day. I didn't like the fact that the process took a whole night, and I had no way of knowing what my hair was going to look like when I pulled the braids/rags out. Do you know how nerve-wracking that is, especially if you have an event to go to (*cough* my brother's wedding)? Would the curls be too tight? would they end up in funny places? I developed my own way of doing nice randomly chunky waves. Here's how to get some nice messy random waves, without sleeping on a head of uncomfortableness. I absolutely LOVE the randomness of these curls. Have you seen this method done before? "How do you put your hair in the flat iron without burning your fingers?" Feel free to Pin!!

But after the first week or two I start hitting the snooze button, and end up rushing out the door with disheveled hair and comfy clothes. I don’t think you have to be “done up” every day, especially for class, but when I take the extra time to look good, I’ll feel even better. That extra boost of confidence means I’ll be more enthusiastic about speaking up in class or at work, which is always a good thing. So, how do you primp without skipping out on those quality zzz’s? The Fun Bun: I utilized this fun bun more than once on a trip to Mexico last summer. The Mini-Bow:We’ve seen the bow-bun before, but I think a huge hair bow would be a little too much for class. The Hippie Headband:Do you have more headbands than you know what to do with? The Teased Pony: This look is the most va-va-voom of the bunch.
