Kitchen Helpers I found these helpful charts last week and just had to share! Both of these beauties are from Chasing Delicious (aka one of the most fab foodie blogs out there)! Dark Side of Oz Dark Side of Oz [Setup] [Similarities with Pictures] [Similarities] [Conclusion] [Pink Floyd Lyrics] I've done this experiment quite a few times, and I'll have to admit that there are a lot of coincidental events and themes. Although Pink Floyd has never admitted to doing such a thing (except Roger, who stays quiet when asked), there are just a few points that should be examined. I guess you'll just have to come to your own conclusion.

Hand Cut Double Dovetail Experiment - by Woodhacker After admiring the double and double-double dovetail joints that are capable with the Incra and other jigs, I started thinking, “Why not try this by hand?” So this box is my first experiment with handcut double dovetails. It took me some time to figure out the joinery process, but once I realized a few things about this type of joint, it seemed do-able. It was quite challenging but also a ton of fun. It also does take some degree of patience and precision…which I’m still working on. In this blog, I’m focusing on the sides of the box, but here’s a few pictures of the nearly completed box -

Blu Homes Prefab Home Manufacturer Comes to Canada » BEC Green Last Saturday I was invited to a seminar hosted by Blu Homes. I first read about Blu Homes on Treehugger when it was announced that the company had bought Michelle Kaufmann Designs. The firm created The Crib and two home models undeniably inspired by corn cribs. The Basic Crib includes 175 square feet of roofed space and 125 square feet of exterior deck space. The Full Crib includes 250 square feet of enclosed space and 125 square feet of exterior deck space. This structure is assembled and finished with SIPs roofing and flooring in about two or three weeks.

(Image Source) (Image Source) Two if by Sea: DIY Cargo Shipping Container Home on Stilts “One if by land, two if by sea” goes the poem of Paul Revere – but not in reference to a pair of sea-shipping containers radically converted into a single on-land dwelling. A local train yard and a few hundred dollars can buy you a few five-thousand-pound insulated metal boxes. And at that price, who would not be tempted to plan their new home around shipping container-sized units? Paul Stankey (and family) not only bought his structural materials on the cheap, but also used simple do-it-yourself processes to construct his cargo container house step by simple step – starting with pipes to leverage the containers off of the trailer attached to his truck. After pouring simple concrete foundations, he and his partners used railroad ties, vehicular force and rounded pipes to roll the containers up and into place before welding them to the piers below.

Stylish & Modern Shipping Container-Sized Prefab Home Architects are enthralled by the possibilities of cargo containers as building blocks, to the point where many designs that use shipping containers as design elements celebrate them stylistically as well. Not everyone, however, wants to live inside a steel crate originally designed to be shipped overseas. While this wooden prefab structure does collapse into a cargo container-sized unit for portability, once shipped it barely resembles its origins. In fact, with volumetric extensions at well-chosed intervals and a facade with varying visual rhythms and physical textures, the Drop House looks very much like any high-quality, site-specific modern wood-and-glass home might.
