Paxos (computer science) Consensus protocols are the basis for the state machine approach to distributed computing, as suggested by Leslie Lamport[2] and surveyed by Fred Schneider.[3] The state machine approach is a technique for converting an algorithm into a fault-tolerant, distributed implementation. Ad-hoc techniques may leave important cases of failures unresolved. The principled approach proposed by Lamport et al. ensures all cases are handled safely. The Paxos protocol was first published in 1989 and named after a fictional legislative consensus system used on the Paxos island in Greece.[4] It was later published as a journal article in 1998.[5] The Paxos family of protocols includes a spectrum of trade-offs between the number of processors, number of message delays before learning the agreed value, the activity level of individual participants, number of messages sent, and types of failures. The topic predates the protocol. Client Acceptor (Voters) Proposer Learner Leader Non-triviality Safety Liveness(C;L)

10 Reasons Why 2013 Will Be The Year You Quit Your Job Editor’s note: James Altucher is an investor, programmer, author, and several-times entrepreneur. His latest books are I Was Blind But Now I See and 40 Alternatives to College. Please follow him on Twitter @jaltucher. People read TechCrunch because they want to create something, they don’t want to follow orders all of their lives, and they want financial freedom. I’m being blunt. Getting the things you want is hard but for reasons I explain below, you now have no other choice. But don’t wait for shortcuts. You can’t make money without selling something real. And now it’s too late. Jabba’s newest employee 1) The middle class is dead. He said, “look out the windows.” “Not all the news is bad,” he said. And that’s the new paradigm. And it was. 2) You’ve been replaced. I’m on the board of directors of a temp staffing company with $600 million in revenues. Flush. Robots are the new middle class 3) Corporations don’t like you. “What’s the problem?” He said, “no, we want to be about the news.

Open vSwitch: Can you use an open source distributed virtual switch? The open source world has delivered an alternative to the Cisco Nexus 1000v in the Open vSwitch -- a software switch that is optimized for multi-tenant public cloud computing environments. The Open vSwitch gives network administrators visibility and granular control of traffic running between and within virtual machines (VMs) in almost every environment – but doesn't yet work with VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V technology. The Open vSwitch Project – which is backed by network control software startup Nicira Networks – provides downloadable coding for the open source virtual switch, which is licensed under Apache 2. Like the Nexus 1000v – which is used in vSphere – the Open vSwitch addresses every networking pro's concern with virtualization: the inability to control data flows and provide other core network services between VMs. The tight traffic control enabled by the Open vSwitch is largely the result of the OpenFlow switching protocol . Still, the adoption by XenServer is promising.

Un pied d’égalité entre la finance et les autres abords du BSC Le BSC dans un service RH Le balanced scorecard peut être adapté à toute structure : entreprise, services d’entreprise, équipe projet etc… Les axes d’analyse restent les mêmes.

Who gets things done? | Everybody, Somebody, Anybody or Nobody? | Marc Clark Everybody, Somebody, Anybody or Nobody? | Marc Clark There is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Did you follow that? It is important to remember that all owner-operators, managers and supervisors hold positions of leadership, but not all owner-operators, managers and supervisors are leaders. Managers are analytical, structured, controlled, deliberate and orderly. Leaders on the other hand are flexible, experimental, innovative, creative and visionary. In today's complicated work environment and business arena, astute leaders are sought after. Now that you have a better understanding of effective leadership, Nobody will be left behind, Anybody can come to you for guidance, Somebody will now reach their potential and Everybody will be happy. * The story of Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody comes from an Anonymous author.
