Ultra-efficient LED puts out more power than is pumped in MIT physicists have been testing a light-emitting diode that has an electrical efficiency of more than 100 percent. You may ask, "Wouldn't that mean it breaks the first law of thermodynamics?" The answer, happily, is no. The LED produces 69 picowatts of light using 30 picowatts of power, giving it an efficiency of 230 percent. That means it operates above "unity efficiency" -- putting it into a category normally occupied by perpetual motion machines. However, while MIT's diode puts out more than twice as much energy in photons as it's fed in electrons, it doesn't violate the conservation of energy because it appears to draw in heat energy from its surroundings instead. In slightly more detail, the researchers chose an LED with a small band gap, and applied smaller and smaller voltages. Don't miss: Let there be LED: The future of the light bulb 69 picowatts of light, of course, is a very small amount -- so you're not likely to be able to read in bed with one of these LEDs.

When will computer hardware match the human brain? by Hans Moravec Journal of Evolution and Technology. 1998. Vol. 1 When will computer hardware match the human brain? (Received Dec. 1997) Hans Moravec ABSTRACT This paper describes how the performance of AI machines tends to improve at the same pace that AI researchers get access to faster hardware. Brains, Eyes and Machines Computers have far to go to match human strengths, and our estimates will depend on analogy and extrapolation. There are considerations other than sheer scale. More computer power is needed to reach human performance, but how much? The retina is a transparent, paper-thin layer of nerve tissue at the back of the eyeball on which the eye's lens projects an image of the world. It takes robot vision programs about 100 computer instructions to derive single edge or motion detections from comparable video images. 100 million instructions are needed to do a million detections, and 1,000 MIPS to repeat them ten times per second to match the retina. MIPS and Megabytes. to mimic their behavior.

Bateau électro-solaire : A l’arrêt comme en navigation, les panneaux photovoltaïques du toit solaire fournissent l’énergie aux batteries (environ 10 à 20 % de la capacité de votre batterie).

#1 Breakthrough: Solid State Generator We have finally been given permission to discuss this technology that we consider to be at the very top of our list of emerging clean energy technologies. Solid state, low (for now) continuous power, commercial in maybe 24 months, cheap, high power density, no existing physics laws broken. by Sterling D. Allan Pure Energy Systems News I recently became aware of a group who has a battery type technology, except this is not a battery as it never needs to be recharged. A New Energy Congress associate of mine, Tai Robinson, and I have visited them and have seen a prototype in operation. Although Mark is under an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), he obtained permission for me to conduct this interview. Sterling: Hi Mark, tell me a little about the company. Mark: Hi mate. I am impressed with the dedication and volume of work they have completed given the minimal resources they have had to work with. Sterling: Can you briefly outline the generator technology. Mark: The million dollar question.

Here Are All 56 Finalists In Our 2012 Innovation By Design Awards Design isn’t the gloss applied at the end of the innovation process. Design is the innovation process itself. It begins with a keen insight into how people live and what they need; ideally, it ends with a product or service that’s so intuitive that it seems inevitable. It’s in that spirit that we present our first Innovation By Design Awards. Culling this group wasn’t easy. And as you dip into the projects that follow, we hope you’ll be as inspired as we were. Transportation The finalists range from an electric bike by Ideo to the new Ford Fusion. Consumer Products Many of the finalists suggest entirely new sorts of product ecosystems, such as the BioLite CampStove and the Nike+ Fuelband. 2-D Design Our judging panel leaned heavily away from traditional branding and 2-D design, and put a focus on disruptive innovations in data visualization. Service Design The finalists range from a clever hack that converts charity into impulse buys to the UPS package-delivery overhaul we’ve always wanted.

3D Model Websites 3D models represent a 3D object using a collection of points in 3D space, connected by various geometric entities. A free 3D model definitely can save your budget and deadline. On average, a modeler saves over 2 hours of modeling time when they could get a free 3D model. Today, 3D models are used in a wide variety of industries. The movie industry uses them as characters and objects for animated and real-life motion pictures. We understand how useful a 3D model could be. Note: Some of these 3D models have limited rights. 3D Total3D Total provides free stuff on 3D model in categories of human characters, household, body parts, vehicles, weapons, alien characters, architecture, medieval, cartoon, star wars, scenes, animals, sci-fi, low-polu and mechaniods.Model formats: Max, 3ds, dxf, lwo, mb <IMG src="

Ouf !!

Water-Fueled Engine by a Friend of Kapanadze From PESWiki Compiled by Sterling D. Allan Pure Energy Systems News February 18, 2012 Stefan Hartmann of Overunity.com has posted two videos of a Russian group (friends of Tariel Kapanadze) apparently powering a stand-alone engine on water. They drink from a bottle of water (of course, it could be Vodka), then pour the liquid into what appears to be a fuel tank. As it's running, they show the exhaust being clean. I'm looking for more info on this. Official Website looking Videos Kapanadze friends water motor 01 free energy (YouTube / OverunityDotCom; February 17, 2012) Description: This is the second part of the Russian water motor done by some friends of Kapanadze. This movie is from a new release from a Russian movie from youtube user Realstrannik As this movie was very long, I chopped it up in parts to make it easier to view. This movie seems to be coming from a few friends of Kapanadze that have a working water motor running.... -- Stefan Forum Links

Japanese breakthrough will make wind power cheaper than nuclear NOTE: Some major wind projects like the proposed TWE Carbon Valley project in Wyoming are already pricing in significantly lower than coal power -- $80 per MWh for wind versus $90 per MWh for coal -- and that is without government subsidies using today's wind turbine technology. The International Clean Energy Analysis (ICEA) gateway estimates that the U.S. possesses 2.2 million km2 of high wind potential (Class 3-7 winds) — about 850,000 square miles of land that could yield high levels of wind energy. This makes the U.S. something of a Saudi Arabia for wind energy, ranked third in the world for total wind energy potential. The United States uses about 26.6 billion MWh's, so at the above rate we could satisfy a full one-third of our total annual energy needs. Now what if a breakthrough came along that potentially tripled the energy output of those turbines? Well, such a breakthrough has been made, and it's called the "wind lens." Editor's note: Want more info?
