Matt Ruff's The Mirage: spectacular alternate history of Arabian manifest destiny I am a huge fan of Matt Ruff's novels, so when friends in the know started to spontaneously tell me about how fantastic the advance manuscript they'd just read for his next novel, The Mirage, was, I just assumed, yeah, it'd be more great Matt Ruff. But this isn't just more Matt Ruff. This is Matt Ruff with the awesome turned up to 11. To 12. To 100. The Mirage is an alternate history novel set in a world where Arabia, the United Arab States, are the world's historic superpower. Arabia prospers, though it is not without its internal strife. But Arabia is a good place to live. For Crusaders -- the Christian extremists who go on attacking Arabia -- 11/9 is a wake-up call. It would be easy enough to laugh off as just another nutty conspiracy theory, except that the Crusaders are very sure of themselves. This is one of those books that you read while walking down the street and long after your bedtime, a book you stop strangers to tell about. The Mirage

Car-racing game on a thermal printer Joshua Noble's "Receipt Racer" is a car-racing game played using a thermal receipt printer; it reminds me of the games I used to write in BASIC on our old teletype terminal, which we loaded with enormous rolls of brownish paper towel of the sort you could get in elementary school bathrooms (once the paper was used up, we re-rolled it and ran the other side through the teletype, though filling a roll took a long time at 110 Baud!). The game is played on a receipt printer, a common device you can see at every convenient store. It prints those papers you usually find crumbled up in your pockets, just to throw them away. Doodles Some doodles transcend being mere pastime. Here is a collection of some of the best doodles and their respective creators. Share carnovsky RGB Color est e pluribus unus RGB is a work about the exploration of the “surface’s deepness”. RGB designs create surfaces that mutate and interact with different chromatic stimulus. Carnovsky's RGB is an ongoing project that experiments with the interaction between printed and light colours. The resulting images are unexpected and disorienting. Guild Wars 2 Discussion - Best class for a solo player? I play all 8 classes and Warrior is easily the one that can tear through PvE with the least effort/thought put into it. Every class can be used to solo, but for easy mindless tearing through things, go Warrior. Warrior is very bad at healing and getting rid of conditions but can tear through groups before healing becomes an issue, usually. You didn’t play Ranger properly if you think Warrior is a better solo PvE class. There is nothing in this game that can touch a Ranger for solo PvE leveling. For levelling I tend to agree. I would recommend against a glass-cannon and/or pet-unfriendly build, for levelling, though. Also, for god’s sake, if you pet is low on health, and you aren’t casting a heal, swap them and get the 20s cooldown instead of the 60s one! As for “try hard” nonsense, Ranger does take more thought and effort than a hundred-blades signet warrior, but so does every spec and class, and most of them are more rewarding and have higher skill caps too.

ANNIE WU Apologies for the limited updates. It's been pretty go, go, go with ELLE's "Dirty Little Secret" series (s-so many ladies to draw). I think I failed to mention that there are exclusive illustrations in each issue of ELLE (at least for a few more months), so you should check those out. Yes, I realize I'm terrible at promoting myself. I pulled a few late nights to get some new things going as well, including the pictured shirt design. Oh. And the conventions just keep coming.
