Putting hopes for Apple’s future on a magical New Category misunderstands the company’s real direction. Instead, Apple stays the course and continues to play its Ecosystem Game. Many interpret this as a company in death throes. The iPhone is 7 years old. The iPad was introduced 4 years ago. Since then… nothing.

Media future, strategy and visual journalism with Jeff Mignon Innovation News Ask The VC February 2, 2010 1:11 PM Today, I learned that former classmate of mine at the University of Michigan has started a blog for startups dealing with intellectual property issues. Jill Bowman is a great person and her blog is not only informative, but is also written in her voice, not legalese. (Her husband says it’s too “girly” but I totally disagree). Jill promises to dish on IP “train wrecks” (her words) that she’s seen over the past decade and hopefully her wisdom can save some folks future headaches. She also promises to talk about costs savings in IP controversies and expose how some big firms are ripping off their clients.

Chief technology officer A chief technology officer (CTO), sometimes known as a chief technical officer, is an executive-level position in a company or other entity whose occupant is focused on scientific and technological issues within an organization.[1] Overview[edit] The role became prominent with the ascent of the information technology (IT) industry, but has since become prevalent in technology-based industries of all types (e.g. game developer, e-commerce, social networking service, etc.). As a corporate officer position, the CTO typically reports directly to the chief executive officer (CEO) and is primarily concerned with long-term and "big picture" issues (while still having deep technical knowledge of the relevant field). Depending on company structure and hierarchy, there may also be positions such as director of R&D and vice president of engineering whom the CTO interacts with or oversees.
