diy {magnets} I was cleaning out my craft space (or as my family jokingly calls it, "the factory") and I came across a few miscellaneous objects that I thought would be good to use for a project. Here are the items before: some flat glass marbles, unfinished wooden squares, and bottle caps. Now they are super cute magnets for my fridge! Glass marble magnet -Trace the marble onto the paper that you want to use. -Cut out the shape -Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the front of the paper and smooth it onto the glass marble. -Place a small dot of Gorilla Glue (or E6000) to the magnet and place it on the back of the marble (I placed a book on top of the magnets for some pressure while it dried.) And voila, lovely map magnets! Bottle cap magnets -Cut a circle the size of the inside of the bottle cap. - Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the back of the paper and place it inside the bottle cap. -Starting with the outside edges, fill the cap with dimensional craft glaze. Ta da!

SINGER® SEWING CO. | Resources: Machine Needles Selecting the correct needle for your project is just as important as selecting the fabric, thread and stabilizer. There are different sizes and types of needles for different types of fabric. The European metric sizing system for sewing machine needles is numbered from 60 to 110. The American sizing system is numbered from 8 to 18. For both sizing systems, the lower the number the finer the needle and the higher the number the larger the needle. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind: the lighter the fabric the smaller the needle size and the heavier the fabric the larger the needle size. A full selection of SINGER® needles is available online in our NEEDLES section. Sewing Machine Needles Regular Point (Style 2020) needles are used for all woven fabrics. Serger/Overlock Machine Needles Regular Point (Style 2054-42) serger needles are used for all woven fabrics. Change the needle after sewing two to three garments or after hitting a pin.

The Seam Method of Pattern Alteration An innovative technique for pattern alteration that's simple to understand and easy to do, offering options other techniques don't. by Judith Rasbandfrom Threads #85, pp. 48-51 When I was studying pattern alteration in college, I learned that no matter what method you use to alter a pattern, when you're done, all that's really changed is the outline, or outer edge of the pattern. As my teachers and I explored this idea, we further proved that the closer you place the alteration to the seam or stitching line, the less distortion to the pattern there will be. No special tools neededClear a work surface, and gather the tools you'd need for any alteration session: tissue or other plain paper for filling in the cut pattern, scissors, markers or pencils, transparent tape, and a straight and a curved ruler, ideally in clear plastic so you can see the pattern through them. Alteration basicsThe following guidelines are useful no matter what alteration technique you're using. Drawing: Karen Meyer

How to make your own air dried porcelain with common household ingredients Anything that is quick, affordable and makes beautiful things is a craft winner for me . But…I often find myself uninspired for something new and different. I’ve found it in air dried porcelain (aka Porcelana Fria). What will someone make with 3 cups of white glue (PVA) 3 cups of cornstarch (Corn flour) one tablespoon of white vinegar one tablespoon of glycerin (health food or hobby shop), and 2 tablespoons of canola oil? The beautiful mouse and necklace pictured (compliments of Espirit ) is the answer! Amazingly simple and a GREAT school holiday project, get the kids into the kitchen to cook up some home made, air dried, porcelain. Let’s make it: In a mixing bowl (or non-stick pan) mix 3 cups of white glue and 3 cups of cornstarch. For microwave heating : Cook in a microwave-compatible recipient for 2 to 3 minutes on high (for a 800W oven; longer for a less powerful oven). Stove top : Cook in a saucepan over low heat for about 15 minutes. This one’s a big thumbs up from me.

T-Shirt Wedding Dress T-Shirt Wedding Dress By Donna Kroiz and Lauren Kroiz Until the late 19th century, brides generally bought the fanciest dress they could afford and then wore it throughout their marriage as an evening gown. With the rise of mass-produced clothing, white became the popular color — maximally impractical, it signified the owner would wear the dress only once. Efficient women often married in white and then dyed their dresses to wear again.
