Sew, Cook, Laugh and Live: Lots of lace. My new no pattern required top! A tutorial
Ok, so I finally have the pics to prove that I have been doing some sewing! Here is my new “no pattern required” top. It really is so quick & easy to make a top like this. I didn’t even need to use the overlocker! I just used a zig zag stich to finish the edges as I think that sometimes, an ovelocked edge, can be too visible through lace. This is the perfect top for the change of season that is happening right now. Throw it on over a white singlet & wear with jeans for a casual look or team it with a black singlet & black pants for a more sophisticated look. It would also look great worn with a skirt or shorts. Ok, it looks good with everything! I am going to make one in black, white & any other coloured lace I can get my hands on! The lace that I used has a little stretch (but not too much) so it drapes with the body nicely. If you have seen my then you already know how to make this top. Yep, it works on the same principal. Trace around the shirt. This is the back of the top pattern.

How to Make Your Own Beauty Products from Scratch - Lifestyle Let's keep things simple this week. When it comes to personal-care products, we are big believers in streamlining what you use—see "Eight Products You Think You Need But Don't" for a refresher—buying less in general, and getting creative. We have both always loved experimenting in our kitchens and our bathrooms, checking ingredients in products we love, isolating the main ones, and then trying them on their own. Sometimes it works: A favorite hair leave-in contained aloe, for example, so one day we tried aloe alone and found that, lo and behold, it worked just fine on its own. Simple body scrub Many body scrubs, even the ones that claim to be sugar- or salt-based, actually contain beads made out of polyethylene, which is environmentally deplorable (it all goes down the drain, remember)—to say nothing of the preservatives, fragrance, penetration enhancers, and sulfates that typically bulk up these products. DIY - Bias Tape Maker Hi! This post is to share my recent discovery when I came across a bias tape maker in Susie Can Stitch. I''m still learning to sew and seeing the cute little bias tape maker she have...make me want to have one too!...even though I haven't decide what to do with bias tape...but making them looks so much fun. Since I don't have a bias tape maker...so, I just sort of 'make' one.... This is how I do it... Material : Craft cutting blade, some fabric straps, hair straightener (yup...) These are what I have on hand a common craft cutting blade.. Prepare some fabric straps... you should cut yours in bias grain for actual bias tape! (Mine are just normal fabric scrap...not a bias grain one.. This post is mean to demo how the cutter case works as a bias tape maker) Remove the end of the cutting blade Remove the blade inside as well Fold your fabric strap whichever way you want to bias tape to be... Insert the strap into the blade casing A needle to push it will be helpful Pull the strap from the tip... Love

Large T-Shirt to Fitted Tee Tutorial | a.steed's.life I have these two t-shirts that I love. They're soft, comfortable, and have good worn (and sentimental) designs on them. But, I never wear them for anything other than around the house because they are large men's t-shirts and look completely shapeless on me. So, while I was staying with my mom at her camper this summer (she lives & travels in an RV), I asked her to help me try it out. First, a before & after look at the t-shirt we did. So, here's how it's done. Start with a t-shirt you love that's just too big Turn the shirt inside out and lay a shirt that DOES fit you on top of it, lining up the collars so that you can be sure it is centered over your large t-shirt. Thanks to brianagayle for the video tutorial & tips! No time to make your own?

Continuous Bias Tape Tutorial Every time my mom comes to visit I promise that I'll show her how to make continuous bias and somehow we run out of time...and energy. So. This is for my mom: how to make continuous bias (of course you can use it, too ;). Once in a while I need lots of bias, more than a little strip I hastily cut from the corner of my fabric, and let's face it, the selection of pre-made bias is slim. and on the Divine Grace dress I made for Project Run and Play last year: Continuous bias is also convenient for binding a quilt, although, as we've established in the past, I've yet to complete a quilt. Start by folding your fabric on the bias (45° angle). Next, with right sides together, match the edges of fabric together so the bias edges you just cut create an X. Open up your fabric and on the right side, draw lines along the bias edge. You want to be as precise as possible so you stay on the bias. It will look like this at the beginning and end of edge. Now you have a giant tube of fabric on the bias.

Old Mens T-shirt Sewn Into Women's Dolman Tee My husband and I are runners so we have a million t-shirts. I love transforming these boxy, oversized tees into something I will actually want to wear other then for a nightgown. I love this heather grey and wanted to make it into my favorite style tee. I love the comfortable, effortless style of the dolman tee... It took me about 15 minutes or so. I played around with seams to get the fit right. Supplies: DIY intructions: Full Video go here (it's old though). Begin by removing the collar of the shirt, pull to create an off the shoulder look. Mark your 1/2 your hip measurement inside the t-shirt so it's even. Pleat about 4 inches up by folding accordion folds and pinning through front and back. Mark your arm hole measurement and pin from the under arm seam to that measurement. When you sew, start at the bottom hem and sew up to the under arm seam in a gradual line. Cut all the excess interior fabric away or serge the interior.

How to Make Painted Lace Sloan Howard Photo: Sloan Howard by Cindy Losekamp Lace is romantic, but painting it with multicolored dyes can make it sophisticated, fun, or wild, as well. Dyeing lace trim with a paintbrush opens a kaleidoscope of possibilities-color depth, precise application, and artistic blended effects-not possible with dip-dyeing. And it's an easy way to create a beautiful, unique detail for garments and accessories. You can paint lace of nearly any fiber using the proper dyes, but lace made from rayon-especially Venise lace-takes color much better than any other. I use a kit of seven color dyes specially formulated for lace, and the colors can be mixed to expand the basic palette. Use beautiful dyed lace trim to embellish anything you wish-garments, purses, frames, shoes, pillows, curtains, or even a pair of sweet anklets. • Permanent Lace Dye Kit (SewingArt.com), Rit Dye, or Jacquard I-Dye or I-Dye Poly (DharmaTrading.com) • Fine-mist spray bottle • Old towels or paper towels 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

DO IT YOURSELF: T-Shirt Weaving I have a lot of t-shirts. Long sleeved, short sleeved, too small, too big…. I especially have a lot of oversized t-shirts that I like to wear as tunic dresses. Because I have quite a few, I find it difficult to style them without being repetitive. So, inspired by books such as Generation T and Youtube tutorial experts like itsblitzzz and secretlifeofabionerd, I decided to try my hand at some t-shirt reconstruction. I designed the weaving pattern myself, it is quite simple and if repeated a few times creates an interesting chevron stripe pattern on the sleeve. Hope you enjoy this tutorial, feel free to comment or message me with any questions. Can’t wait to see what you come up with! For more from me, please visit my personal blog, Le Petit Lapin **NOTE: When you get to the top of the sleeve, you can just cut the last loop and tie a small knot or bow.

11 Easy DIY Beauty Recipes for Summer Photo: iStockPhoto.com Summer is officially in full swing and with it comes cute shorts, hot weather and hopefully some time spent at the nearest pool, beach or lake. Face It’s important to stick with a strict skin routine- even during the summer. Body Have some milk in your fridge that’s about to expire? Hair For an easy and natural deep conditioner, blend 1/4 cup of plain yogurt, 1/4 cup of mayonnaise and the whites from one egg. What do you think? Are you a fan of DIY beauty?
