cole rise - StumbleUpon Gravity Defying Photography for Chocolate Trail by NAM First: everything in these photos, liquid typography included, is part of a single photograph, and if you don’t believe it just watch the video. This new series of ads was created by art/design collective NAM (previously here and here) for the Harbour City Chocolate Trail, a charity project for the Hong Kong Blood Cancer Foundation. The series uses their signature method of suspending objects and people with strings and cables to create weightless environments that appear to be caught mid-explosion. mark mawson photography Carved Book Landscapes by Guy Laramee (click images for detail) For the better part of three decades multidisciplinary artist Guy Laramee has worked as a stage writer, director, composer, a fabricator of musical instruments, a singer, sculptor, painter and writer. Among his sculptural works are two incredible series of carved book landscapes and structures entitled Biblios and The Great Wall, where the dense pages of old books are excavated to reveal serene mountains, plateaus, and ancient structures. Of these works he says: So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes. Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. Laramee’s next show will be in April of 2012 at the Galerie d’Art d’Outremont in Montreal.

I selected eleven of his Pencil Vs. Camera images from his site, but you should check out all his awesome work if you have time. The Holi Festival of Colors Another year, another collection of glorious videos featuring the Hindu Holi Festival of Colors at locations around the world, and as the quality of equipment improves it just gets better and better. This latest addition was shot and directed by Jonathan Bregel and Khalid Mohtaseb from New York-based Variable in India this last March. I highly recommend watching it in HD, as their beautiful camera work seems to capture every single particle of color as its hurled through the air. Another widely-shared video was this clip from filmmaker Devin Graham that captures the Holi Festival in front of the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah. Lastly I can’t help but include my all-time favorite Holi clip from last year by Brian Thompson (previously), also shot in Spanish Fork, Utah.
