Operation Sleep Cute: Sleep Shorts

Operation Sleep Cute: Sleep Shorts
I actually took a picture of the giant pile of sweatpants that I usually sleep in, but it’s too embarrassing to share. Point is, I’m trying to cute up the whole sleep situation with some quick sewing projects. It also makes lounging around the house feel sort of special and less, I don’t know….gross. I started with some sleep shorts in our beloved Nicey Jane (ooo, it’s on sale right now at Fabricworm). If you have any tips on sleeping a little bit cuter, tutes to point us to so we don’t look like such slobs, or general whining about why it is that we have to look cute while we freaking sleep, leave them for us in the comments and you could possibly win the Heather Ross Double Gauze up there on the left. Maybe it seems a little too early to be thinking about the beach... but seriously, I can't wait. So- without further ado- the 20 Minute Beach Cover Up! (1) Cut it. (2) Braid it. (3) Attach it. Another option: if it's bunching too much in back, you can add in a tapered curve. (5) Wear it. It was so simple!

Free Pattern to Download: The Madeleine Mini Bloomers Valentine’s day is coming this weekend, and whether you love it or hate it, you must admit having something adorable to lounge around in makes any day that much sweeter. So I present to you the madeleine mini bloomers, a free sewing pattern that you can download! It takes only a yard of fabric (along with some elastic and ribbon), and an hour or two of sewing to whip up these pretties. These are no prim and proper Victorian bloomers, as you can see. They sit low on the waist, and are scandalously brief. The back view is particularly flattering. The pattern is put together like any Burdastyle pattern. Download the Madeleine Mini Bloomers pattern! DIY: Dip Dye Denim By Jesse Massari on May 2, 2012 May is denim month at FASHIONOTES! And to kick things off we thought a cool DIY project for some awesome ombre dip dyed denim shorts was in order. Inspired by summer and the awesome job Yume from Ninja Sovereign did on her ombre denim shorts, heres the how to so you to can make your own dip dyed denim shorts! First, grab a pair of denim shorts from your closet or thrift a pair that could use some sprucing up. Next, get some fabric dyes in the colors of your choice. Now you’ll need to put on those gloves as this could get messy! After thats dried, boil some new water and add the middle color to the bucket. Again, boil some new water and add the last and darkest color. And there you have it! Remember to follow the washing and care instructions for the dye you use before you wear the shorts. I found many tutorials on the internet, but was disappointed after making pouches following these tutorials to find that they were not fully lined; looks so much nicer when you open your pouch and there are no seams. 1912 Frocks for Christmas - The Ladies Treasury of Costume and Fashion New Materials Draped Evening Cloaks Evening Blouse Chemisette Artistic Evening Dress With Christmas "in the air" one's thoughts naturally turn to frocks and the many odds and ends of dress which play an important part in those festivities which cluster around the season; for to a woman a not inconsiderable part of a pleasure depends on the knowledge that she is suitably garbed. Now the question of pounds, shilling and pence enters largely into the matter in most of our cases, and it is with a special view of helping those of moderate means who yet desire to be becomingly and smartly gowned, that I am writing today. Two points make for economy. First of all, expert knowledge; secondly, plenty of time. Given these, there is no reason why the girl who makes her own gowns should not be quite beautifully dressed at very little outlay. The knowledge must be there; for to achieve success the true feeling of fashion must be met. The second point must not be forgotten. New Materials

Tie-Dye Shorts Last year tie-dye shorts were popular and we thought they would definitely fizzle out by this summer. But as we all know, tie-dye shorts are back and better than ever. Last year we dip-dyed shorts, bleached shorts, and even tie-dyed our beach sheet (click each for the links). But of course! Following the traditional tie-dye instructions (get the item wet, put on the color, let dry, wash in cold water), the hardest part is waiting for them to dry. Step 1: Gather your supplies: tie-dye kit + white shorts. Step 2: Wet your shorts (following the tie-dye kit's instructions). Step 3: Apply color, let dry, and wash. Step 4: Wear and enjoy! That's all there is to making a pair of fantastic tie-dye shorts. Back to School ~ Laptop Bag Joy from How Joyful brings us this handy and really pretty Laptop Bag tutorial today.
