Tropical Pineapple-Papaya Green Smoothie Recipe When the snow is falling and the temperatures are falling, I love to drink in some tropical sunshine in the form a a fruity green smoothie! This smoothie if very sweet and so it is perfect for blending with celery and parsley. Feel free to toss in some bitter greens like kale and dandelion as well. Parsley is the richest source of iron from any leafy green that you’d get from the supermarket. One cup contains 3.7 milligrams of iron, as well as 10% RDA (recommended daily allowance) of copper, 7% RDA of magnesium, 7% RDA of potassium, 6% RDA of zinc and 5% RDA of phosphorus. This smoothie is low in calories, but it has 11.2 grams of healthy fiber. Pregnant women should not consume parsley. Pineapple-Papaya Smoothie Recipe 1 cup papaya, cubed1 cup pineapple, cubed1 medium banana, peeled2 stalks of celery, chopped1 cup of fresh Italian parsley4 ounces of homemade almond milk Start by adding the liquid to your blender (I use a Vitamix), followed by the soft fruit. Black Sticky Gingerbread Recipe I'm going to revisit a recipe I posted in 2005. I've experimented with a good number of gingerbread recipes in the years since I highlighted Regan Daley's Black Sticky Gingerbread. There were single, double, and triple ginger gingerbreads. Back then, here's what I said, "...The Black Sticky Gingerbread comes together like the cake that it is - straight-forward, unfussy, with a bit of kick and attitude. It all holds true. Just a quick mention that I like Wholesome Sweeteners or Plantation Organic Molasses, both are unsulphered organic, blackstrap molasses. Preheat the oven to 325F / 165C, with a rack in the center. Combine the butter, water, molasses, honey and brown sugar in a medium non-reactive saucepan and place over low heat. Meanwhile, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, all-spice and cloves, and set aside. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for ~45-60 minutes. Serves 12-16. The Juice Generation: 3 celebrity green juice recipes you'll love Blake Lively"I come from a Southern family, so my taste leans more toward butter and sugar than veggies; if they're battered in cornmeal and fried, then I'm in!....Then a few years ago, I had a juice that changed it all for me—a mix that's better than any po' boy you'll ever eat." Blake's Intoxicating Detoxification Sweet, bitter, mild, and fresh—this drink marries many tastes into one beautifully proportioned, and completely addicting, combination. 1 cup kale 2 leaves Swiss chard 1/2 cup parsley 1/2 small beet 1/2 cup pineapple 2 medium green apples 1 sprig fresh mint 1/2 medium lemon, peeled *Red apples can also be used; these will add extra sweetness.

3-Ingredient Healthy Ice Cream Come January, the hum and buzz of juicers everywhere builds and I hear of more and more people making resolutions to clean out their systems and drink more juice, at least temporarily. No judgement; in fact, last year at this time I was on a five-day juice cleanse so my juicer was working hard and I was feeling alive and clean. This year, though, I am more in the mood to make my ice cream machine hum rather than my juicer. So when a friend who is on a cleanse joked that we put the two together, I leapt at the challenge. This was one hell of a dare; aside from having no dairy or eggs, this ice cream needed to be sugar free. With that last nail in the coffin, I stepped way out of my comfort zone and into the test kitchen. Pretty much anything that makes ice cream ice cream was banned. Cream, however, is harder to replace. As for the sweetness, since sugar wasn't an option I leaned on juices. If you don't have a juicer, don't worry, you can get some from your local health food store.

Parmesan Spread This stuff is addictive when you slather it on crusty slices of Italian bread. It uses ingredients that are the basis of so much of my cooking – fresh Parmesan, garlic, basil and olive oil. You’d think I was Italian or something! I’m not but many years ago my husband swore that with enough garlic and olive oil I’d become Italian. Parmesan Cheese, one big brickGarlic, 6 to 8 cloves depending on how garlicky you want itOlive OilCrushed Red PepperFresh Basil Leaves Crush and peel the garlic. Cut the cheese into cubes or chunks. Whirl the garlic in the food processor until it’s just barely chopped. Pulse until the cheese is coarsely crumbled. Gradually pour in a bit of olive oil and pulse until it’s mixed. Add a handful of basil leaves and a dash or two of crushed red pepper. Refrigerate for a couple of hours or overnight before serving. Serve as an appetizer with crackers or sliced Italian bread. Coffee Smoothie This delicious and nutritious smoothie recipe was concocted for all the coffee and smoothie lovers out there. Health experts can’t seem to agree on whether coffee is healthy or not. I believe in bio-individuality, meaning for some people coffee is great, while for others it’s not so good. There’s a reason many indigenous cultures across the globe have sought out caffeine bearing plants. Caffeine, like alcohol, has been shown to extend lifespan, but only when consumed in moderation. Here are a few of the health benefits coffee has to offer. Improved MoodBetter ConcentrationAlertnessIncreased Athletic PerformanceReduced Muscle PainAntioxidant RichDiabetes PreventionHelps prevent Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’sAsthma ReliefAids Digestion I personally have never been much of a coffee drinker, but I do like to use it in my smoothies every once in a while. You can take this smoothie in one of two directions. The Ingredients The Add-ons Show Time

Gnocchi Mac n' Cheese This takes comfort food to a whole new level…wow. I thought I was in love with Buffalo Chicken Macaroni and Cheese and then I was smitten with Ranch Mac and Cheese. But this dish…oh my goodness this is the one.The best mac n’ cheese I have ever had. The little gnocchi make this dish so light and airy and puffy….it’s just….well, there are no words. While making homemade gnocchi is on my culinary bucket list, I used good quality purchased gnocchi for this dishand it was still out of this world. Not to mention a time saver. You just have to try it, you must!!! We can’t wait to have this again. Preheat oven to 375o F. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Combine Gruyere and fontina, then add by the handful to milk mixture, stirring until melted before adding the next handful. Pour sauce over gnocchi and sprinkle with Parmigiano-Reggiano over top. Bake gnocchi until they puff and cheese is golden and bubbly, about 25 minutes. Let gnocchi rest for 5 minutes before serving. Directions

The Healthiest Smoothie Ever I’m making a bold claim with the title of this smoothie, but hear me out. In my quest to have the best day ever, the alchemist in me came out as I threw every superfood in my kitchen into the blender. The result, a delicious, creamy, and outrageously healthy superfood smoothie. Obviously, “the healthiest smoothie ever” is subjective and will vary from person to person depending on your physiology and bio-individuality. Superfoods are a quick and easy way to really boost the nutrition of your smoothies. Goji’s are a complete protein source containing 19 different amino acids, contain over 21 trace minerals including zinc, iron, copper, calcium, and selenium, and contain vitamins B1, B2, B6, and vitamin E. As you can imagine, combining several or more superfoods into one smoothie results in some serious nutrition. One thing I’ve yet to encounter when mixing and matching the various superfoods, a smoothie that doesn’t taste great. The Ingredients The Add-ons Show Time
