Some of you have commented that you are looking for some small, simple gift ideas. This is definitely simple to make, and a little more fun than the typical rectangular zippered pouch! UPDATE: I have completely re-written this tutorial with twice as many bright, clear photos and more detailed instructions and it is available as a pattern in my pattern shop. First, download the pattern template HERE. Cut from main fabric: 1 circle 2 half circles 1 tab Cut from lining fabric: 1 circle 2 half circles Cut from batting (or medium weight interfacing, if you prefer): 1 circle 2 half circles You will also need a 1″ wide nylon 5″ or longer zipper. Place one lining half circle right side up and place the zipper right side up on top. Place a main fabric half circle wrong side up (right side together with the zipper). Sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance.
Making stickers out of recycled paper Making stickers out of recycled paper October 25th, 2011 I recently discovered this great tutorial by Amanda Wood on how to make lovely stickers from recycled paper. You will need: For the glue: 6 tbsp white vinegar 4 packages of unflavoured gelatin 1 tbsp flavouring such as peppermint, lemon or vanilla extract For the stickers: foam paint brush security envelopes or other papers from the recycling bin (enough glue for about 20 envelopes) paper punch (I used a 2″ scalloped circle punch in the picture) sponge for moistening stickers First of all you need to make the glue, so bring the vinegar to boil in a small pan. If you don’t want to go to all the hassle of making glue, you could always use ‘lick n stick’ glue – it’s the stuff I use for my recycled envelopes and you can get it here. To make the stickers, take apart your chosen envelopes and open them up flat. Next you get creative with paper punches – you can use whatever size or shaped punches you like.

Summer is a time to create and when summer hits I definitely put down my knitting needles a bit more…THE HEAT! It is hard to knit with even the softest wool fiber when it is close to the triple digits outside. If you purchased feathers for feather extensions and you have some left this is a great project to use them up on. 1. 2. 3.Bobby Pin (or Alligator Clip) 4. 5. 2x2in square of felt 6. First, holding the button on top of the felt cut the felt to the same size as the button. Once you have cut the felt circle fold it in half and make two small incisions for your bobby pin to attach through. Once you have the holes cut for the bobby pin thread it through the felt. Cut your feathers to the appropriate size so they will sit the way you want them to. Flip your button over hot place a layer of hot glue on the back of the button and begin to lay your feathers. Once you have the first layer glue the second layer to the back of the button.

I made these from Behr swatches, available at Home Depot. You'll need paint swatches, double-stick tape, an X-acto knife, ruler, and cutting mat. For the box bottom, cut a 1/2" strip off each of the two rounded ends of the swatch. The box lid is constructed the same way. Fold each sheet on the scored lines, bending flaps inward and securing them with double-stick tape.

I finally decided to make this pixely popup heart card! They are really minimal (which I love) and take about 20 minutes to make (that includes the card, insert and envelope). You can even make some pixely confetti to put inside the card (if you are a big kid like me!). Full instructions and printable templates below! How to Make Paper Pencils (tutorial) I have always wanted to make my own pencils, but the thought of shaping two pieces of wood to allow a piece of lead to sit perfectly inside made me think it wasn’t worth the effort. For some reason I was looking at some pieces of lead I have (for a drafting pencil) and “pop” there it was.. a solution to my DIY longing. Here is a tutorial to make pencils that is so ridiculously easy I’ve made 10 pencils since the idea came to me yesterday! Enjoy. Paper: I recommend using 6″ origami paper. Here’s a video I made so you can watch me make it from start to finish! I have to admit I really enjoyed doing this craft. Inspired by Yulia Brodskaya I can't get over how amazing these are. I wouldn't be surprised if Yulia invented quilling. She is a 28 year old artist from Moscow who creates beautiful designs from vertical pieces of thin paper and her website is full of inspiration in color, line, shadow and technique. You don't have to be a fellow quiller to wish you were like this great lady. Even though her pieces would be amazing if they were drawn, it was the fact that they are 3d that caught my attention. When my husband and I were engaged, I bought wooden letters to spell out 'save the date' and covered them with different patterned paper. (I couldn't resist showing our cute picture) The letters were already covered (I know, I didn't post a diy... I picked out 4 colors of paper that went with the colors in the pattern and had them cut into 1/2" strips. It feels great when you know that it takes alot of time and effort, but the end result makes up for all of that. In hindsight, I would choose a letter that had a meaning.
