This conference aims to provoke informed, rigorous and critical debate on aspects of typographic research and practice that relate to current discourse and contexts. It is the inaugural event in what will become an annual international conference. In the field of visual communication and typographic practice, a great deal of epistemological uncertainty still exists. The conference will provide a forum for research into typographic production, representation, dissemination and use. Suggested themes for papers include (but are not limited to): contemporary thinking about typography; the role and relationship of typography to cultural memory; the materiality of typography; type and language; endangered practice; post-digital typography. Grid Systems in Graphic Design : A Visual Communication Manual for Graphic Designers, Typographers and Three Dimensional Designers - Josef Muller-BrockmannMASH by MASH on Typography ServedPresenting our first, self-titled project ‘MASH' by MASH. Everyday through June & July a member of the quad submitted an uppercase letterform of the alphabet. This culminated in a display-face bonanza that you’ve never laid eyes on before! Or perhaps you have (ahem, Jessica Hische), but never before from NEW ZEALAND.MASH are four female font fanatics from a little town called Hamilton in the heart of New Zealand. Type is more than just the alphabet yo’ momma taught y’all, for us it is the bee’s knees, the ‘crème de la crème’, the tip of the iceberg…the reason for existence. MASH is a typographic collaboration between Mary Faber, Alice Lo, Saranna Drury, & Haylie Gray.
Scandia Font Family | Process Type FoundrySwapping angularity for lush curves, Scandia picks up where Scandia Line leaves off. If its sibling is the skeleton, then Scandia is the flesh. With a nod to the classic geometric sans serifs of the 20th-century, Scandia builds a steady rhythm across its four weights and matching italics to create a versatile family of fonts. While developing Scandia, care was given to avoid simply wrapping curves around Scandia Line’s primitive forms. Instead, it was used as a proportional guide before imagining curves and a different weight structure for what would become Scandia. To complement the four primary styles, a stenciled variant modeled on the Bold weight has been added to the family. Scandia also includes a handful of alternate characters that can be found as an OpenType Stylistic Set. If you hadn’t guessed by now, Scandia Line was designed first and served as the inspiration for Scandia.

Self Promotional Piece on BehanceI have always had a hard time determining how to brand myself. Do I use a business name? Do I use my name? The dilemma being that googling Steve Jones could return not only a 80s hair rocker, but also a British TV host both of which couldn't be further from me. (Although I do get down on the guitar) This piece was developed to resonate with audiences who truly appreciate and admire something beautifully crafted. I worked with some amazing people getting the production squared away. The outside cover was screen printed at Grand Palace in Nashville, TN by Drew Binkley, a very talented artist and fellow musician. This book was created to showcase my work at my senior show and to land possible job opportunities.
