Messy bun tutorial

(Coat by French Connection) After this post, I got a few requests for a “messy bun” hair tutorial! My boyfriend laughed when I told him that I needed help photographing it. It is a bit unintuitive – a process for making your hair “messier.” That said, this method will probably have to be tailored to fit your individual hair type; it even took me a few tries to photograph and post this tutorial properly, as sometimes it turns out better than others. Nonetheless, I thought I’d oblige those who asked! (Crew neck sweater by J.Crew) FYI, this hairstyle is considerably more difficult on freshly-cleaned, slick hair – it’s much easier to style if it’s a little dirty. Now on to the tutorial! More in-depth explanation: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. I feel like I should rename this blog to “Hairstyles for lazy people and art students”, because this is seriously the PERFECT way to wear your hair if you are like me and don’t wash your hair daily. Inexpensive Way to Whiten your Teeth at Home Post from: beautytips4her.com You want to keep updated? Please LIKE Beauty Tips 4 Her On Facebook. A car salesman will always try to convince you that the most expensive vehicle is the best for you, and since you have no knowledge about the subject you would probably fall into his net. It might sound a bit far-fetched to say that a dentist would recommend an expensive teeth whitening procedure just for the sake of better payouts, but I wouldn’t take the chance. Even specialists accept the fact that existing techniques are not completely harmless, although they emphasize the fact that low risks are taken. I am a sucker for beautiful smiles, so it goes without saying that I religiously use this teeth whitening procedure, and the effects are self-evident. Step 1: — Mix 1/2 part of hydrogen peroxide to 1/2 part of Listerine (or any mouthwash) then gargle the mixture for about a minute and rinse out the mouth. Thank you for Visiting!!

PIN IT UP, GIRL Our email box is literally flooded with requests for updos so here’s a fun one to get us all going! This is always a favorite for attending an event. This updo looks gorgeous on any hair color but particularly amazing with hilighted hair because it gives the hair lots of depth and dimension. For lack of a better word, I love the way it becomes “swirly”. Tools you’ll need: curling iron (to prep the hair with waves), sectioning clips, teasing comb or brush, clear elastic rubber band, bobby pins, light to medium holding hairspray (to mist over at the end). Sea of Shoes: HAIR HOW-TO I am sometimes asked how I style my hair, and while my method is far from perfect, I thought I'd show you how! My hair is pretty straight and fine naturally and I always let it air dry. Since I go about three days between washes, I like to curl it on the first day and let it mellow out into some nice waves over the next two. Let's get started! If your hair doesn't hold curl very well then you may want to put a palmful of curling mousse in it when it is halfway dry. (though I want to upgrade to one of the fancy new ones from Sultra soon!) When I'm done curling the bottom section, I mist it with Bumble and bumble Spray de Mode and comb through the curl with my fingers. Ahh!! If you want to dress it up a little, you can do a braided headband look! Find a spot on the opposite side of your head and pin it so that it blends in naturally with the rest of your hairstyle. Well, that's it!

IN A RUSH? FORGET THE BRUSH! photos: Angela Kohler + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess In a world where we can’t stop running late, the fun bun is probably the quickest way from A to Chic. This look comes in über-handy when you wake up late and you’re rushing out the door (or even if you have plenty of time). Step 1: If your hair is straight, use a 1″ curling iron to curl everything under. Step 2: Flip your hair over and gather everything into a ponytail on top of you head, securing it with an elastic ponytail holder. Step 3: On the last time around with the ponytail holder, only pull the ponytail through half way. Step 4: Take the loop you’ve created and spread it out. Step 5: Take the tail end and wrap it around the ponytail base. Step 6: Pin the end of the ponytail to the base using a couple of hair pins/bobby pins. Step 7: Gently pull on pieces and then pin them. Step 8: Spray a veil of medium hold hairspray all over. Enjoy the fun bun! XX Kristin Ess Related posts:

www.runningonhappiness.com/2011/09/how-to-top-knot.html The top knot, or messy bun, is a great hair style when you don't have a lot of time, but want some style, and it always looks classic. It works best for the gals with longer hair, but shorter haired gals, need not to worry. Here's how to achieve the look: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. CHALK IT UP photos: Kristin Ess, post designed by Kristin Ess Last week, we were shooting Lauren’s collection for Kohl’s and at the end of the day, we got our hands on some colorful soft chalks. How can a girl resist when there are pinks + purples involved?? Lauren’s pink cotton candy bun was pretty cute! As you may know, hair chalking has been around for a little while now and it’s a great way to temporarily add color to your locks. Twist the hair as you chalk. Try doing 2 colors on one strand! The best part about chalking is styling it. The colors we used for this post were:

Vintage Queens 99 and 100 are the bright young twins www.queensofvintage.com The Bright Young Twins are two vintage creeps living in East London enjoying a shared passion for antique clothing, macabre objects and sordid bars. Harriett was born and bred in East Sussex. She grew up shopping at nearby antiquing villages against the historically decadent backdrop of Brighton. Born in Hackney, Aimee has lived in East London her whole life and is scared to go ‘south of the river’. After a while of constantly being confused for the same person (and explaining to lecturers to just call them ‘thing 1 and 2’ ) The Bright Young Twins project was born. The Bright Young Twins like travelling together, partying, avocados on toast, junk shops, flowers, making badass Mexican food, boys with long hair, showgirls, smut, feminism, girls with long hair, dancing to their records and planning elaborate new schemes. image 1: Katie Holt
