Long Hair Tips Many of you asked if I could do a post on my hair care and routine. Apologies that it has taken me so long to post on it. I have to admit that my hair really is not in its most healthy state right now. As I mentioned before, I experienced post postpartum hair loss with both of my little ones. My hair is not nearly as thick now, but it's growing back in pretty quickly now. I decided to break this down into areas. In any case, I do not do nearly all the things I know, I should be doing for my hair. On My Hair Type I have a lot of hair. Washing I wash my hair at most three times a week, typically only twice. Once about every 6 weeks I use a clarifying shampoo to remove any product build up that with time can really weigh hair down, dulling it and making it more difficult to style. Conditioning Opposite from shampooing, I do not condition my roots very much. Once a month I will try and condition my hair for about 30 minutes, but as any mama, finding the time to shower is hard enough. Blow Outs

Homemade Hair Treatments Eggs, yogurt and honey are, at first glance, all components of a tasty breakfast—but they also happen to be hair treatment ingredients, and affordable, all-natural ones at that. And they're not the only ones. Did you know, for instance, that the oils in avocados more closely resemble our own skin's oils than any product in the beauty aisle does? Or that the mild acidity in lemon is an effective—and gentler—alternative to chemical-laden products? Next time your locks need a lift, save money by using one of these kitchen fixes. For All Hair Types "The [raw] egg is really the best of all worlds," says Janice Cox, author of Natural Beauty at Home. To Use: For normal hair, use the entire egg to condition hair; use egg whites only to treat oily hair; use egg yolks only to moisturize dry, brittle hair, Cox says. Photo by Shutterstock. For Dull Hair To Use: Massage 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt into damp hair and let sit for 20 minutes. For Itchy Scalp For Limp or Fine Hair For Frizzy Hair
dry shampoo I won’t easily forget my first dry shampoo recipe or homemade waterless shampoo, whatever you would like to call it. Picture this: Summer of 199Something, backpacking through Europe. Almost at the end of my trip my shampoo is finished, as is my money (well almost, but I chose bread over shampoo… am I weird now?) I’m wearing a baseball cap most of the time to hide my hair and bumming shampoo from fellow travelers whenever I can At some point it must have been so bad that the landlady of the small French hostel I’m staying in, grabs me by the arm and drags me into her small kitchen. In my room I applied her dry shampoo as instructed, brushed it out and was completely blown away. Needless to say I thanked her from the bottom of my heart and asked her what was in that jar. Now you are here looking for a homemade waterless shampoo recipe and I’m all too glad to share some of the easiest and fun ones with you (not that I’m saying you need it like I did… ;-) What is a dry or waterless shampoo?
Controlling Your Cowlicks If there is one complaint I hear the most from my clients, it's about their cowlicks! I've had a lifetime of fighting with a cowlick in my bangs. Nothing is worse than your bangs poking up or splitting down the middle. Cowlicks are definitely harder to deal with if you have bangs. If you have bangs: -Go for a thicker bang or a longer bang to help control your cowlick and weigh it down. -Once you wash your hair, blow dry your bangs immediately, or re-wet them before you blow dry. -When you blow dry, pull against your cowlick one way and blow dry for a few seconds, then pull and blow dry the opposite way for a few seconds. -Try putting a styling gel just on your cowlick before you dry your hair. -After your hair is dry, pin your bangs flat while you do your makeup. -A little trick I have for my cowlick is clear brow gel. If you don't have bangs, let your cowlick be free! If you don't have bangs: -Round brushing and root pump are KEY. -Round brush either up and forward or up and backwards.
How to Make Your Curls Stay Often I have clients who sit down in my chair and say "Good luck with my hair. It's stick straight and won't hold a curl for anything." Then I secretly do the mad scientist cackle in my mind and think. . . Oh just you wait. . . your hair will curl. And it does! Next time you curl your hair, take these tips into consideration: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Here are links to some of my favorite tools and products for making my curls stay, if you are interested in purchasing them:
What to Know Before You Cut Bangs BANGS! If there is one thing my clients are the most back and forth about, it's their bangs. We've all been there. 1. WHAT TYPE OF BANG Before you cut, know exactly what kind of bang you want so you can tell your stylist. 1. 2. 4. 5. HAIR TEXTURE/TYPE Some of us will never have bangs like this, including me: I just don't have the right hair texture! 1. 2. You can also try clip in bangs. 1. 2. 3. 4. A few more things to consider: Cowlicks - the best way to deal with a cowlick in bangs is the keep them long or thick. Styling - A lot of how bangs look on celebrities depends on how they are styled. Be realistic - I love these bangs- But think about it, is it really the actual bangs that I love? Happy bang cutting!
