Howie Owl – hoot hoot! « 3EyedBear The first kit of the new year is this deceivingly simple looking little owl to expand the bird-population in 3EyedBear’s universe. We all know owls are one of the wisest creatures and this one certainly will be one day too. Thing is: she’s still very young and inexperienced, but she compensates that with a passion for reading thick books while you sleep. It don’t hurt to have her posted in your bedroom since owls hunt for little scary creatures by inborn instinct. She will watch over you. (click one of the images to download Howie) Collect them all! Make Your Own Glitter Flats In case you haven’t noticed in the past almost 3 years (!!) WANM has been in existence, I am not a crafty person. Nope, I leave the crafts to Chels and I stick to the kitchen (where disasters can easily be shoved down the garbage disposal!). But still. It started with these: The Kate Spade Nell Glitter Flats. The Gap Glitter Ballet Flats. And then, the other day, I was watching the Today Show and they had a whole segment on DIY glittering. I was immediately super excited, but Chris was a bit skeptical when I told him. So, I did a little research and found quite a few bloggers who had the same idea for DIY glitter shoes. DIY Glitter Flats: • Mod Podge (about 2 ounces)• Glitter (any color, about 2 ounces)• Foam Brush • Clear Glaze Spray ( a few sprays)• Pair of plain flats (and color will do) All together, I spent about $32 on supplies. Start by mixing the Mod Podge with the glitter. Brush a thin coat of the glitter/glue on to the shoe. It helped. Continue glittering both shoes all over.
DIY Recipe: Baking Soda and Orange Juice Face Mask | Beauty Bets June 21, 2010 Today’s DIY recipe is a total revelation to me. It comes courtesy of Melissa Colgan, the Style Editor at Mpls.St. Paul magazine. She was kind enough to take before/after glamour shots of her soon-to-be-famous baking soda and orange juice mask. MC says that this combo gets rid blackheads like nobody’s business and is great for treating hormonal breakouts. Mix 1 tbsp real orange juice with 1 tbsp baking soda (I like to use a shot glass – ha!). The mask will tingle and itch a little so it’s good too have a distraction—paint your nails, watch TV, but whatever you do, don’t talk. Tip: If you don’t have the time for a full mask, mix a little bit of baking soda into your cleanser for a light exfoliating treatment.
The BEST Play-Dough Recipe Have you ever made play dough and it just fell apart?? Well… not this time. This recipe will make play dough that is seriously the closest thing to store-bought you’ll ever make. No falling apart or drying out (as long as stored in a sealed container). It will last up to 6 months.The secret to this recipe?? Two things: First, Cream of Tarter… it’s what helps the dough stay together. and Second, not a lot of salt… all that salt dries out your dough! Ready to make it? Ingredients: 1 C Flour 1 C Water 1/4 C Salt 1 TBSP Vegetable Oil 2 tsp Cream of Tarter Food Coloring (actual coloring or a kool-aid packet will do) Sparkles (If you wanna be a fun mom!) Pour in all ingredients. Stir until everything is mixed well. Once the mixture is (mostly) clump free. Stir. Stir, Stir Stir.Just keep stirring until the Play Dough is formed. How To Mix Chalkboard Paint in Any Color We love using chalkboards as backdrops for displays and parties (like this one here!). So we were super excited to learn that you can create your own custom colors-and it's really easy! We first learned how from Martha Stewart whose tutorial you can read here. She recommends that you use latex paint, but we tried it out with acrylic paints with much success. Supplies: 1/2 cup acrylic paint (choose any color you like, or mix colors together to make the perfect shade!) 1. 2. Once your chalkboard has fully dried be sure to slate the surface before using it for the first time. Have fun creating any color combination you like!!

The Convertible “Infinity” Dress: How it almost defeated me, and what you need to make one I made this thing. It’s pretty cool. It’s a convertible dress that’s basically a circle and two straps, so it’s really easy, inexpensive, and crazy versatile. It’s been around forever and everyone seems to love it (in fact, part of the reason I’m posting this is to answer some questions for people I’ve run into), and I can hardly believe how close I came to not making it at all. I first found the instructions at a blog called rostitchery, and then I came across a second set at Cut Out + Keep. So I bought some material, spread it out in the living room, cut out my pieces, and… …stopped. I didn’t understand the next step. Turn the skirt inside out? And what’s this about making them overlap each other? There’s, like, a band of fabric involved? What? I figured I was just being thick. So I folded up my circle and my straps and I put it all back in the bag it came in. And I went upstairs to watch TV. I was wearing my new dress after about half an hour. Select a stretchy knit with spandex in it.
stencil with freezer paper (harry potter tee) Yes, I am a nerd. I came up with a brilliant idea for a Harry Potter t-shirt and I couldn't resist. "Expecto Patronum!" However, you can make whatever kind of design you want with a freezer paper stencil. I learned about the joys of freezer paper back in my early college days. Basically, freezer paper is backed with a plastic coating that will stick to soft surfaces when ironed, but it peels off cleanly and easily. To make a sweet t-shirt you will need: paper & pencil a t-shirt an iron a piece of cardboard or poster board fabric paint & brush Start by drawing your design on some regular old paper. My design kept getting bigger, so I taped two sheets together. Next, place your design underneath a sheet of freezer paper and trace it neatly with a sharpie. The marker gives your lines greater width making it easier to cut them out and paint them in later. Now place a piece of cardboard under your freezer paper to protect your table while you cut. Important: Set these shapes aside.

DIY Brooch Bouquet Remember I mentioned my fiance's family visiting me this weekend? It was INCREDIBLY productive! One of the things I want to share with you today is the brooch bouquet we worked on. Not to sound overly sensitive (okay okay, I am), but it is so amazing how Jose's family AND community are a part of this wedding. What I mean is that Jose's Mom, Mama Nels, is very close to the women at her church. She mentioned my search for brooches in my crazy idea to create a brooch bouquet. I have felt the support of Jose's family beyond what I can describe. Let me just throw out there that in the beginning I had some rough trials. See this mushroom? My first idea was to use a half sphere styrofoam to stick the brooches into along with a square bottom that I would trim later for the base. I then wrapped it in tissue paper to cover it up Then I used these hair pins I bought at a thrift store to hold the half sphere and square (and for decoration)... How to Make Simple Crochet Slippers « Crafts IMPORTANT NOTE: This pattern uses US crochet terminology. You can find the SLIPPER SIZE, YARN and HOOK specifications at the end of this article !!! (To see more of my patterns, please visit my ONLINE SHOP!) I am an addict. An addict for crochet slippers. It all began when I saw slippers similar to these somewhere on the internet. I loved them so much I couldn’t get their tempting image out of my head. All I needed was a pattern. But because I am terribly, terribly impatient, I found creating my own pattern quicker than looking for an official one on the web. And since I’m no crochet guru, the pattern turned out to be really simple. Actually, these slippers might be the simplest slippers in the universe. Or not. But they might. This is what I did… Round 1: 5 ch (chain stitch); join into ring with sl st (slip stitch) Round 2: 3 ch; 7 dc (double crochet stitch) into the center of the ring; join with sl st Round 3: 3 ch; 1 dc into first stitch; 2 dc into each next stitch; join with sl st Row 14: turn (!)
life in general: yarn bowls Okay, here's how it goes. It's super easy and just a little bit messy. ;) Supplies: yarn + glue + bowl Prep: Cover a bowl with plastic wrap. Or use a balloon as your form. Method: Dip yarn into glue. *Once the bowls were constructed I considered brushing on some liquid starch (just to help stiffen the yarn) but I didn't get around to it. The kids had a fun time with this project. The other two needed help from time to time. The other one loved the project, repeatedly complimented everyone's "awesome" bowls, and made a good effort until she ran out of steam and I finished the bowl. Bottom line . . . it kept them busy for an hour, yes there was lots of hand-washing and wiping but the mess was contained to 1/2 of the dining table (not too bad), and they all ended with a project they were proud of.
How To Use Olive Oil To Fade Acne Scars Acne scarring is a common skin condition, and is caused by previous acne pustules, papules or cysts that have healed. Acne scarring can be brown, pink or red, and can take a long time to fade form the face. Luckily, by applying olive oil to the skin in a few different ways, acne scars can fade more quickly. Soften dead scar tissue by applying olive oil to the skin. Massage 1 tbsp. of olive oil onto the skin, using deep pressure and circular finger movements. Exfoliate and remove the softened scar tissue by applying an olive oil scrub. Keep your skin clear and free of infection by combining olive oil with tea tree oil.
