Iron on Wall Art

Iron on Wall Art
I have been meaning FOREVER to do something about the wall above my little guys crib. It looks like this: (SORRY--bad camera phone picture) What is so bad about this you might ask? So the story goes like this: I wanted to do COLTON'S name on the wall--but I frankly didn't want to spend the $ to buy any more wood letters that I would have to paint or mod podge or something. Well it did. I found THIS gal (at the Brassy Apple) doing THIS (Heat-n-Bond WALL ART). I was BLOWN AWAY by the AWESOMENESS and BRILLIANCE of her idea. So I went online to a free font website and downloaded a fun font for Colton's name. I figured out the size I wanted and printed each letter out. Next I chose some fun coordinating fabrics to use and cut a square of each of them. Next I got out the Heat-n-bond. This is the kind you want to use--the one made for light fabrics: Then I pressed a square of Heat-n-Bond to the back of each of my fabrics. This is always the tricky part of using Heat-n-Bond. Linking up to THESE parties.

the LIFE LESSONS blog {things crafty, thrifty, family, yummy & rambly): Lesson #30 Make Your Soap Mess Free! Felt It! Marriage is all about compromise. David's family keeps the butter on the counter. My family keeps the butter in the fridge. Compromise: we keep the butter on the counter, covered, and for short amounts of time I like liquid soap for the shower. David likes bar soap for the shower. (I think it gets gross when it makes a pile of goo on the shower edge) Compromise: I made felted soap Here's what you'll need: *wool batting *soap *hot water You can look up a ton of youtube videos on how to do this if you please. 1. 2. 3. We had lots of fun just hanging out and rubbing soap together. I'm going to miss you so much Lynette. 34 DIY headboard ideas The headboard is now looked at as a mainly decorative element in our bedrooms. As it usually happens, it all started from a practical reason/purpose.The headboard, a piece of furniture that is attached to the head of the bed, was initially an element that isolated sleepers from drafts and cold. Back then the buildings were less insulated and thus such a feature was needed. The headboards were made of wood because it’s a material that’s less conductive than stone or brick for example. With time, this function has been lost and replaced by a purely aesthetical function. Headboards are mostly decorative now, although they do have a certain amount of functionality. These 34 diy headboard ideas exposed here are not competing with each other, by the contrary these are the best projects we could find to show you, and all of them are equally interesting. Headboard from salvaged materials. The first project is realized from scrap materials salvaged from a burn pile. Metal headboard. Wood headboard.

How to make gift bags from newspaper When I bought something at a store recently, the clerk handed me my purchase in a bag made from a newspaper. I liked it very much and had to make some more—thus today's DIY recycled newspaper project: gift bags made from the Wall Street Journal. You can vary the dimensions, of course, but here's what I used to create a bag that's 5" tall, 4.5" wide, and 3" deep. Stack two sheets of newspaper on top of each other. Cut out a rectangle that's 15.5" wide and 8.25" tall. Fold a flap 1.25" down from the top. Cut two pieces of cardstock or chipboard to 4.25" x 1", then glue them on the widest two panels just under the top fold. Put glue on the outside of the 0.5" tab and bring the left-most panel over to form the body of the bag, aligning the cut edge of the panel with the folded edge of the flap. Upend the bag so the 2" flap is now up. Put glue on both flaps and fold them inward to form the bottom of the bag.

DIY Projects | The Hyper House Browsing Category "DIY Projects" When we last left off, my planters looked like this: I was making these planters for my mom and my husband’s mom and I wanted each planter to reflect a gift I was giving them with the planter. For my mother-in-law, I had found a ceramic piece highlighting her Irish heritage I wanted to hang from the planter. We attached spindles to the planter and placed finials on top for a decorative accent. I then painted the planter white (do not use spray paint, trust me on this) and added a stenciled phrase and a hook. For my mom, I know she loves hummingbirds and I had luck finding a beautiful garden piece at one of my favorite local shops (The White Hare) with some hummingbirds on it. Now you might be wondering how these planters can hold plants. My brother bought my mom the flowers for this planter. These two planters were my first real woodworking project. We’re a month out from Mother’s Day but I wanted to share my Mother’s Day gifts with you all. . comes in.

Brassy Apple i wish i was a dressmaker The title says everything! I LOVE dresses! I've attempted to make a dress a while back (my second sewing project ever- ambitious I know!). I sifted through the pattern packets at the local JoAnns and finally came across one I liked that was listed under 'easy'.... yeah... sure! Needless to say I cut out the pieces and that was it! Then, one day, I decided that I was going to try again- but this time with some expertise! A year later and I'm still sewing :-) With more experience and confidence, I decided to try again- myself! This project was many 'firsts' for me, therefore it was a little more challenging than I thought. It was my first time making a dress- by myself (and I survived!) In the end everything turned out better than I thought and I truly love it! A few things I did/changed from the original tutorial. I originally cut the panels 30 x 36in (the 36 length because I was making it into a dress instead of shirt), but then trimmed them down to about 24 x 34in.
