small world land: Day 23 -Mini Cuckoo Clock I absolutely love cuckoo clocks, and have been dying to get one for our house for years! I love all the hand-carved details in the house, the little woodland animals, the kitschy German landscapes and of course, that fact that a birds comes out of a little door to say "cuckoo!". So like many things I have yet to get, I will make a very tiny version for a dollhouse and wait patiently for the day, I get a real one in my own house! Get your block of wood, and cut a card-stock roof, and triangle for support. Glue the triangle to the roof, and then the roof to the house. I drew all the details on card-stock, added color with color pencil and glued the little pieces onto the house shape. Then I used a thin jewelry chain, and a stick pin, to add those little acorns and the pendulum. I attached them with super glue. You can hang this tiny cuckoo clock inside your dollhouse and it will instantly be much cozier. This time of year, this would make a really cute ornament too, just attach some ribbon!

Futuristic Construction with The Boy I'll get directly to it today. Visitors are on their way and my abode needs an overhaul NOW-ish. I'm going for the "illusion" of clean. Wish me luck. Here's what the boy and I got up to yesterday! Tutorial: Kids' Futuristic Construction Set You will need: Cereal boxFoam meat trayEgg cartonPaper bag (or whatever paper you have on hand)Wooden skewersPair of scissorsWax crayonsPencilSharpieHole punchAssortment of round things to use as templatesPVA glue Take your cereal box, open it up and draw out a goodly amount of circles and rings using round things (bowls, cups) as templates. Cut out all the circles. With a paper bag (or whatever paper you happen to have around) and PVA glue, make paper beads by rolling your paper up into long tubes and cutting the resulting tubes into sections like so. Cut the cups out of an egg carton. Using a foam tray as your base, poke the wooden skewers down into it, pointy end down. Go ahead my little one, build to your heart's content. Look at him.

Kinder Surprise Trick Dec 24/11 Surprise the Ones You Love (14 pics) Here are instructions for a very special gift for the people you love. Buy a Kinder Surprise. Carefully unwrap it, but be careful to not damage the package. Use a knife to cut the Kinder chocolate egg in half. Take the toy out. Write your special message or use other surprise gift. Roll up your message. Close the container. Pour boiling hot water over a sharp kitchen knife. Use the hot knife to melt the edge of the chocolate egg’s halves. Quickly place the container inside the two halves. Quickly seal the two halves while the edges are still soft and melted. Here comes the most difficult part. Lastly give the gift to your second half and say something like, “I bought bread and some sweets for you.”

small world land Follow I often hang a strand of Tibetan Prayer flags on my back porch. They are made of untreated cotton, block-printed with prayers and images. They weather in the sun and wind so they start out as vivid primary-colored flags and wind up shredded and faded. I have always believed that the flags are supposed to be directing good vibes to my home: peace, kindness, strength, and wisdom. But I am digressing. First you need to download the flag template. After you have ironed on the flags you are ready to cut them out. Now you can glue them onto thread or embroidery floss or onto a toothpick if you want the vertical kind. I built a simple triangular stand out of balsa wood. Now you are ready to display your flags.

All for the Boys - All for the Boys - MOVE OVER PAPER&AIRPLANES - StumbleUpon because the straw plane is in town! I don't know what you call this thing but we referred to it as a strawplane. Whatever you want to call it, it's pretty cool! You'll need some heavier paper (we used 3x5 index cards), a straw, scissors or something to cut the paper with, and tape. You will need to cut 3 pieces of paper about 1" wide and 5" long. Tape two of the pieces together "long ways" and then tape to form a circle. Use the remaining piece to form a small circle and tape the ends together. Now you have a large circle and a small circle. Tape the straw to the inside of the circles placing the small circle at one end and the large circle at the other end. And you're done! Now is the fun part! The boys had to try and fly a straw without the circles to make sure that it wasn't just the straw that was the good flier. Have fun fllying! P.S.

pretty little pincushion ring | i always pick the thimble You’ll need : 3/4″ diameter felt balladjustable ring with a 3/4″ diameter base plate with short lip near the edgeE6000sharp scissors Cut, glue, stick and that’s pretty much it. Don’t you love crafts this easy! It’s kinda funny because we sell these little rings in the store and most people squeal in delight when they see them. When I’m sewing by hand, I have this really bad habit of sticking all the pins I’m finished using into the arm of my chair while I sew. The pincushion ring helps me remember to stick them in my pincushion, not the chair, haha! Happy sewing!

Dollhouse, Train, or Village Light Snow-globe Miniature in Mason Jar | Put it in a Jar For the love of snow globes! This DIY mason jar Christmas idea has definitely reached out and captured my attention, and I’m anxious to make one myself! It is beautiful, creative, awesome, and it’s all in a mason jar! It’s easy, fun, safe, it can be made at home with the family, and it’d be the perfect holiday cheer to incorporate into your Christmas village or other holiday decor! It is a completely dry project, and looks absolutely incredible! The tutorial is provided by Amber from Salt Tree (blog), and we’d love to see many more pieces like this from her! I’m overwhelmed with ideas of variations I’d like to do with her idea, but I’m still on the hunt to be able to find these little village trinkets, especially ones with any kind of lighting included! You’ll need some of the common craft materials that we seem to be mentioning more and more lately (mod podge, fake snow, mason jars), and a few others.
