Why Women Still Can’t Have It All - Anne-Marie Slaughter The culture of “time macho”—a relentless competition to work harder, stay later, pull more all-nighters, travel around the world and bill the extra hours that the international date line affords you—remains astonishingly prevalent among professionals today. Nothing captures the belief that more time equals more value better than the cult of billable hours afflicting large law firms across the country and providing exactly the wrong incentives for employees who hope to integrate work and family. Yet even in industries that don’t explicitly reward sheer quantity of hours spent on the job, the pressure to arrive early, stay late, and be available, always, for in-person meetings at 11 a.m. on Saturdays can be intense. But more time in the office does not always mean more “value added”—and it does not always add up to a more successful organization. Clients come first, always, and sometimes burning the midnight oil really does make the difference between success and failure. Enlisting Men

Ultimate Boot CD - Overview Christina Cauterucci: Reality Bites: Why The Real L Word Is Bad for Lesbians Ask any queer girl: When it comes to gaydar, haircuts count. Surely not every pixie-haired chick out there is hiding steamy Sapphic fantasies inside her carefully pomaded head, and I've met plenty of lesbians with hair that looks straight in more ways than just texture, but any lady with a shaved side, faux-hawk or asymmetrical 'do gets at least a second glance from me. When I came out in college, I was lucky enough to do so in the company of three highly experienced lesbian roommates, all of whom advised that I reconsider the long, shapeless locks I'd carried over from my high-school days. One of the gang, as odds would have it, owned all six seasons of The L Word on DVD -- 24 discs of the kind of soft-core, girl-on-girl action that only Showtime could get away with -- and we scoured each episode for hair inspiration. I eventually settled on Shane's cut, the only style on the femme-heavy show that looked queer enough to help me land a date.

New Future Media HowStuffWorks &How Operating Systems Work& When you turn on your computer, it's nice to think that you're in control. There's the trusty computer mouse, which you can move anywhere on the screen, summoning up your music library or Internet browser at the slightest whim. Although it's easy to feel like a director in front of your desktop or laptop, there's a lot going on inside, and the real man behind the curtain handling the necessary tasks is the operating system. Most desktop or laptop PCs come pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows. More recently, operating systems have started to pop up in smaller computers as well. The purpose of an operating system is to organize and control hardware and software so that the device it lives in behaves in a flexible but predictable way.

Megan Baldwin: What Separates the Women From the Girls A few months ago the editors at the Huffington Post invited bloggers to contribute blog posts and videos about "the moment I knew I was a woman - not a girl." OMG, I thought. I've totally got this one. I'm 27, fast approaching 28, so I figured there had to be a light bulb, flash in the sky moment in my short history. What does it even mean? Once you get there, are you able to make food without the assistance of a microwave? As my contemplation continued, I realized that no one had ever drawn me a detailed road map -- I have had a better shot at arriving on time if I'd at least been given an address to plug into Google maps. So like the best sort of lost person I decided to ask for some directions. According to my stepmom -- who happens to one of the better grown up ladies I know (she keeps my dad in line,) it's seeing the world with a little more compassion and being able to juggle more than one thing at a time. So being a woman is... yikes. So being a woman is...exhausting.

Shulamith Koenig: Everyone Should Be Aware Of Their Inalienable Human Rights "Our future is beyond our vision but not beyond our control" -Senator Edward M. Kennedy It has been almost two months since Ted Kennedy died. Discussions about health care and a public option and/or the sad state of public education in the USA would have had much deeper moral dimensions and sane practical solutions had he been walking the corridors of the Senate today. He was a human rights senator! Yes! He did not articulate his vision by quoting human rights norms and standards, but intuitively, he practiced and fought for human rights as a way of life, encompassing a holistic vision that stands to fulfill humanity's age-old hopes and expectations. If those of us working to make this world a better place took the time to learn, discuss and know human rights as a moral imperative, our vision could extend beyond the "shimmering horizon". Allow me humbly to ask you to walk with me into this discourse about human rights as a way of life, slowly and thoughtfully. There is no other option!

A Way of Life: Ends and Means Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Public Health: Progress and Challenges What is social class discrimination It is the actual behaviour of those who treat others differently depending on their social situation, to pigeon-hole someone socially, such that someone on benefits is treated unfairly compared to that of someone who works for a living. Invariably it's a dysfunctional psychology re-enforced by peer pressure to gear an individuals thought processes to fail to take into account or assess another individuals sole circumstances before passing judgement. It is not really seen as a problem by the bearer of the discrimination unless the bearer directly experiences some similar discrimination. Some examples of social class discrimination I have faces are: 1. 2.The inconvenience of having hungry children and no nearby store to purchase food at because apparently it is the private business owners right to decide weather or not he will let "poor" people shop at the business. 3.
