300,000 Organic Farmers Sue Monsanto in Federal Court: Decision on March 31st to Go to Trial
Little did Willie Nelson know when he recorded “Crazy” years ago just how crazy it would become for our cherished family farmers in America. Nelson, President of Farm Aid, has recently called for the national Occupy movement to declare an “Occupy the Food System” action. Nelson states, “Corporate control of our food system has led to the loss of millions of family farmers, destruction of our soil…” Hundreds of citizens, (even including NYC chefs in their white chef hats) joined Occupy the Food System groups, ie Food Democracy Now, gathered outside the Federal Courts in Manhattan on January 31st, to support organic family farmers in their landmark lawsuit against Big Agribusiness giant Monsanto. (Organic Seed Growers & Trade Association v. Monsanto) Oral arguments were heard that day concerning the lawsuit by 83 plaintiffs representing over 300,000 organic farmers, organic seed growers, and organic seed businesses. “Crazy, crazy for feeling so…..” “Crazy, crazy for feeling so…… 99% .

OWS is over - The Insiders Posted at 01:57 PM ET, 11/16/2011 Nov 16, 2011 06:57 PM EST TheWashingtonPost I think it’s safe to say the Occupy Wall Street experiment as a political force is over. The left wing in America can’t resist rambling stoners, malcontents, and Grateful Dead camp followers. As everyone knows, zombies never really die, so it is possible the OWS movement will infest public space again. Perhaps OWS, in some form, played into a Democratic longing to create more of a political connection to some sector of the population. Other Americans who may be concerned about issues such as income inequality could not identify with OWS as a movement, particularly after observing increases in violence, disrespect of the police, disease outbreaks in the camps, and the lack of a coherent message. For those of us who don’t live near one of the protest sites, the OWS movement supplied some comic relief, but they were never destined to survive the onset of inclement weather.

Seed Companies Safe from Monsanto Ties Maybe we can post here what we like about the above mentioned companies. My favorites are Heirloom Seeds, Seed Savers, groworganic.com (because they are local), and Baker Creek (aka rareseeds.com). Heirloom Seeds has really good organic butternut squash seeds. Very hardy. Good all around company that I've never had problems with. Baker Creek has lots of variety and always something new each year and fun. Seed Savers is always got lots to choose from as well. Groworganic.com (Peaceful Valley Farm Supply) sells seeds from renee's garden, seeds of change and several others.

Tennessee Haitian Farmers Commit to Burning Monsanto Hybrid Seeds By Beverly BellThe Wip In an open letter sent of May 14, Chavannes Jean-Baptiste, the Executive Director of MPP (Peasant Movement of Papay) and the spokesperson for the National Peasant Movement of the Congress of Papay (MPNKP), called the entry of Monsanto seeds into Haiti “a very strong attack on small agriculture, on farmers, on biodiversity, on Creole seeds…, and on what is left our environment in Haiti.”[1] Haitian social movements have been vocal in their opposition to agribusiness imports of seeds and food, which undermines local production with local seed stocks. They have expressed special concern about the import of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). For now, without a law regulating the use of GMOs in Haiti, the Ministry of Agriculture rejected Monsanto’s offer of Roundup Ready GMO seeds. Read full post at The Wip

Occupy Vancouver death dooms protest camp - British Columbia The death of a woman taking part in the Occupy Vancouver protest at the city's art gallery has led the city's mayor to announce the protest movement's tent city will be cleared. "I have directed the city manager to expedite the appropriate steps to end the encampment as soon as possible with a safe resolution being absolutely critical to that," Mayor Gregor Robertson said Saturday night. Police said a woman in her 20s was found unresponsive inside a tent at the encampment at about 4:30 p.m. PT Saturday. Police talk to people at the scene. (CBC) "Tragically, she could not be revived," Vancouver police Const. Police said the cause of death has not been determined and would not confirm reports the woman died of a drug overdose. However, Lauren Gill, an organizer at the camp, said that was apparently the case. Gill, who is running as an independent in this month's city elections, said that as an outreach worker in mental health and addiction services, she has seen far too many overdose deaths.

Anonymous Activists Shut Down Monsanto Website [Video] Under the guise of “increased crop yields” and “a sustainable food system,” biotech giant Monsanto has been pumping dangerous genetically modified crops into the global agricultural industry for decades. Many consumers feel that unless they scrutinize the supply chain and growing practices of every farmer or manufacturer, they can’t be sure whether or not they’re eating GMOs. Politicians and leaders in the organic food industry have already shown that they’re not willing or able to fight Monsanto’s contamination of the global food supply, so now it’s up to the people to fight back. To show solidarity with farmers, real food organizations and all free-thinking humans, activist group Anonymous recently issued Monsanto a list of demands in the following video: MSNBC reports that the “Hacking group Anonymous has posted information on 2,500 Monsanto employees and associates.” Anonymous then published this video, showing just how easily they accomplished this sabotage: Related Reading:

Hungary Destroys All Monsanto GMO Maize Fields Food Published on July 21st, 2011 | by Shellee Tyler In an effort to rid the country of Monsanto’s GMO products, Hungary has stepped up the pace. This looks like its going to be another slap in the face for Monsanto and other large scale agribusiness. Almost 1000 acres of maize found to have been grown with genetically modified seeds have been destroyed throughout Hungary deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar said. During their investigation, controllers have found Pioneer and Monsanto products among the seeds planted. The free movement of goods within the EU means that authorities will not investigate how the seeds arrived in Hungary but they will check where the goods can be found, Bognar said. Most of the local farmers have complained since they just discovered they were using GMO seeds. And to make things even worse for the farmers, the company that distributed the seeds in Baranya county is under liquidation. h/t AllAboutFeed Related Articles:

» Robin Hood Tax: Occupy Movement now marching straight into the globalist trap Alex Jones Patrick HenningsenInfowars.com October 25, 2011 It was inevitable that a movement which has struggled to agree on a manifesto, would in the end, do the bidding of the very elite globalist powers that they are demonstrating against to begin with. The Robin Hood Tax is an identical transaction-tax scam to the one proposed by globalists at the 2009 UN COP15 Climate Summit in Copenhagen. Instead of achieving freedom from Central Bank debt enslavement, naive Occupiers appear to have taken the bait, pulling the mob towards endorsing a global taxation system, and one to be administered… by a brand new global government body. The rallying cry for this globalist wet dream is coming directly from the supposed brain-child of the Occupy Movement, the globalist foundation-funded organization, Ad Busters, quietly shepherding its flock towards one of the biggest revenue spinning and control scams ever conceived. Reuters reported yesterday: OWS losing the plot Disengage with the financial system

Monsanto Official Beaten by Farmers over Failed GMO Cotton Seeds in India Activism Published on July 28th, 2011 | by Shellee Tyler In India, Bt Cotton has become one of India’s biggest cash crops, accounting for over 90% of its cotton production. If you are not familiar with Bt cotton, it stands for bacillus thuringiensis cotton. Basically, Bt is a GMO gene that is placed in the cotton plant to act as a pesticide. The problem is: it damages the soil over time and usually farmers are left fighting another insect that Bt doesn’t repel. One company managed to corner the market on these GMO Cotton seeds in India and, you guessed it, that company is Monsanto. In 2005 a decision, it was announced that Monsanto’s Bt cotton seeds would be allowed in India, after much lobbying by Monsanto. Now an agrarian crisis has hit Maharashtra itself thanks to the Monsanto program. Now that the stage has been set and a timeline has been created, here enters the Monsanto official…. I imagine many who read this will grin when they read what happened to the Monsanto official.

Marine Says Oakland Used Crowd Control Methods That Are Prohibited In War Zones wikipedia commons 40mm tear gas launcher As the events that led to Oakland protester Scott Olsen's head injury continue to unfold and investigations begin, we thought it important to offer some perspective. This comment is from a former Marine with special operations in crowd control. He points out that shooting canisters such as those that likely hit Scott Olsen is prohibited under rules of engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan. Before gas goes into a crowd shield bearers have to be making no progress moving a crowd or crowd must be assaulting the line. How did a cop who is supposed to have training on his weapon system accidentally SHOOT someone in the head with a 40mm gas canister? I'll be the first to admit a 40mm round is tricky to aim if you are inexperienced but anyone can tell the difference between aiming at head level and going for range. The person that pulled that trigger has no business being a cop. The Military manual states:…have a duty to collect and care for the wounded.

Monsanto guilty of chemical poisoning in France By Marion Douet PARIS Mon Feb 13, 2012 7:44pm IST PARIS (Reuters) - A French court on Monday declared U.S. biotech giant Monsanto(MON.N) guilty of chemical poisoning of a French farmer, a judgment that could lend weight to other health claims against pesticides. In the first such case heard in court in France, grain grower Paul Francois says he suffered neurological problems including memory loss, headaches and stammering after inhaling Monsanto's (MON.N) Lasso weedkiller in 2004. He blames the agri-business giant for not providing adequate warnings on the product label. The ruling was given by a court in Lyon, southeast France, which ordered an expert opinion of Francois's losses to establish the sum of damages. Lawyers for Monsanto could not immediately be reached for comment. Previous health claims from farmers have foundered because of the difficulty of establishing clear links between illnesses and exposure to pesticides.

Wow. I need to read through this article in detail. Monsanto should be ashamed of the mess they're producing with their GMO foolishness. by williamellerbe Oct 30
