How To Find Inner Peace Within Yourself “The life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress, is the easiest type of existence.” – Norman Vincent Peale Finding Inner Peace and Happiness Silence is truly a beautiful phenomenon with the power to transform you; it touches you to the very core of your being. The reality for most of us, though, is that we never truly experience utter silence. Why is it? Try this little experiment, sit for one hour and do nothing. You will see that most of us try to keep our minds occupied. Why is this scary? For many of us we associate our identity and sense of self to our thoughts, our ego. Don’t be afraid because your true nature is beyond your thoughts. Being in a park and enjoying nature in a silent communion is such a beautiful thing; you feel you are intensely alive. To existence time doesn’t exist, it is one continuous moment. How we experience time is truly a psychological phenomenon, how you perceive it depends on your thought process. 10 Take-Aways from Workshop on Neuroscience, Meditation & Health The other day, I had the pleasure of being able to attend a "Wise Heart and the Mindful Brain" workshop given by Jack Kornfield, a world renowned expert in Buddhist Psychology, and Dan Siegel, an authority on interpersonal neurobiology. Both speakers were extremely eloquent and knowledgeable about their respective fields and they brought together the fields of neuroscience, psychology, Buddhism and healing in a most profound way. The above is a brief video from another "Wise Heart and the Mindful Brain" workshop given by Jack and Dan. I will share with you what I think were the key take-aways from the workshop that Jack and Dan presented. Dan referred to three of his books during the workshop: Learnings from Neuroscience: Gems from Buddhist Psychology: Aside from learning so much during the two day workshop, we also went through several meditations or practices. Meditation on forgivenessMeditation on compassionMeditation on lovingkindness My partner had a very different experience.

Healing the Body with Mindfulness of Breathing « Metta Refuge This excerpt from a talk by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh explains how to use mindfulness of breathing to bring loving-kindness to our dear bodies. The physical effect of this can be truly remarkable. As Thây says, “You should really love your body. The First Exercise of Mindful Breathing My dear friends, yesterday I spoke about the first exercise proposed by the Buddha concerning mindful breathing: “Breathing in, I am aware that I am breathing in; breathing out, I am aware that I am breathing out.” We should always start with our physical bodies, because our physical bodies also needs peace, harmony and rest. We should realize a true rest. Animals in the forest, every time they are wounded, know how to rest. Deep relaxation here is one of the methods of resting. The Second Exercise of Mindful Breathing The second exercise: “I breathe in, and I am aware of the length of my in-breath; breathing out, I am aware of the length of my out-breath.” The Third Exercise of Mindful Breathing Like this:

An Online Community for Social Workers This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Deona Hooper, MSW. Deona is a recent honors graduate and currently works as a Child Protective Services Investigator. Deona is very talented and skilled with technology and through the combination of her computer skills and knowledge of the social work field, she has created www.socialworkhelper.com, a social networking community for social work practitioners and students. In this post, you will have the opportunity to not only learn about this site, but to also hear about Deona's unique journey to becoming a social worker. She is a third-generation teen parent who has struggled to work and study her way out of poverty. I think you will find her determination, hard work and generosity inspiring. Deona - Could you describe a bit of your background? I would define myself as a complex person with a complex history. In 1997, I graduated from Methodist University with a double major in Social Work and Sociology. I have made some adjustments.

Map of Consciousness A Powerful Framework For Your Personal Growth In this article, I’m very excited to share with you the map of consciousness, developed by Dr. David Hawkins in Power vs Force. This is the same map I alluded to in Are You Sleepwalking Your Life Away? Firstly, having the map of consciousness empowers us in knowing where we stand in our current state of growth. Secondly, this map lists all the different levels of consciousness attainable, thus serving as a critical framework for conscious living. For me, having this map of consciousness has been very helpful in identifying where I currently stand in my pursuit of growth, becoming more conscious of my reactions toward life events and what they represent, understanding the limitations of the level I am at and what I should do in order to further up my consciousness. Consciousness Defined What is consciousness actually? Being conscious is more than just being physically awake. Why Increase Your Consciousness Level? 17 Levels of Consciousness 1. 2.
