Architecture Imagine the renovation dilemmas. A huge penthouse of a converted 1930s office building in TriBeCa, New York, is to be turned into a functioning home for a family with three teenagers. In fact, we can not quite imagine the issues that faced Steven Harris Architects when the family showed up, literally, at the doorstep of the celebrated architect and asked if he’d like to work on their home. Harris said yes and proceeded to make his magic. The scale of the apartment is huge and the freedom from budget constraints allowed for some spectacular solutions. Harris’s work is often distinguished by clarity and light, by the use of glass, by the maximization of views and, above all, bold solutions. What emerged as a result of the TriBeCa Penthouse project, is a multi-level (27th and 28th floors) nearly 8,000 square-foot (743 square meter) family-friendly residence that includes self-contained guest quarters and a new glass-and-teak-beam rooftop pavilion that functions as a recreation room.

[Plugin Beta] Curviloft 1.4a - 19 Oct 14 (Loft & Skinning) IMPORTANT: Curviloft plugin is still released in BETA and has no documentation yet. Please be aware of potential crashes and therefore always save your work before launching it.In Beta version 1.3a, all three modules Loft By Spline, Loft Along Path and Skinning should be functional. I still need to complete many features. Curviloft is a script dedicated to Loft and Skinning, that is, generation of surfaces from contours.Loft by Spline joins separate contours, open or closed, by smooth splinesLoft along Path joins contours, along a given rail curve.Skinning create surfaces bounded by 4 or 3 contiguous contours Curviloft examples.png Because there are many solutions to calculate Loft and Skinning geometries, the script offers various options to adjust parameters depending on the configuration of contours. Whatever way you install, you must end up with the following footprint: Fredo6_Curviloft - Footprint.png CAUTION: NEVER rename or move files from their folders. Overview Loft Along Path

Sketchup Plugin | Scene Generator Plugin For Sketchup A new plugin alias Scene Generator is just launched. The Scene Generator plugin for sketchup is in beta stage. The plugin will be very useful to save huge time for completing any project irrespective of any CAD drafting system. This sketchup plugin automatically includes section planes, manages scene properties and naming conventions as well as layers, and styles in SketchUp supported with the TSWFA system. Besides, it syncs flawlessly with the TSWFA scrapbooks to do away with the requirement to deal with stacked viewports, line weight settings, scenes, scales, and render settings in LayOut Michael Brightman, CEO, will present a live show of the Scene Generator as well as an open online help session on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 11am MDT. The prospective users can apply for a one year pre-release beta subscription for $100 to avail the plugin. Downloadable link

Tiny House, Big Movement. | SketchUp Blog A few members of the SketchUp team recently spent a weekend in Portland, Oregon at the Tiny House Conference. It seems that SketchUp is the unofficial “official” tool of choice for the planning and design of a Tiny House. The folks we met in Portland were passionate about making the Tiny House lifestyle accessible to everyone, and we were excited to see that SketchUp plays a part in making that happen. The Tiny House Conference: where the parking lot is the place to be. So what’s the big deal about tiny houses anyway? At the conference, we talked to many people about how SketchUp is being used to design a big change in lifestyle. Macy and James have developed an amazing resource for designing and building tiny houses atPlanningTiny.com(And their tiny house SketchUp plans are available for purchase and download at MiniMotives.com.) We also learned a few nuggets about lifestyle design we thought y’all would be interested in learning. Maximize by minimizing.

Maker Bench: an open source, CNC workbench for everyone | SketchUp Blog Sometimes, it makes sense not to rush an idea. We’ve found that’s especially true when you need other people’s help to make it happen. Earlier this year, we had an idea, and we thought it was a pretty good one... but we weren’t sure. (That ever happen to you?) Our idea was a customizable workbench for any kind of project. We called it Maker Bench. We were pretty excited about our idea, so we shared it with other people (like you), and asked them what they thought. Then, we took a step back. We’re happy to say that many have answered our call to help design and develop Maker Bench. Just one of many clever adaptations proposed on the SketchUp forum, Jeff proposed a chop-saw accessory for Maker Bench. Then, other technologists and designers started to jump in. Matter Machine took the open designs for Maker Bench and built them out on their own web-based parametric modeling platform. And we’ve started building Maker Benches too. That’s not to say we’re stepping away.
