10 Tools For Finding, Registering And Managing Domain Names | De Advertisement A domain name is the starting point for our online brands and identities, be it for a company, online application or a personal website. Some of us may own only one domain for a portfolio site or blog, whilst others have to manage domain names for clients or all kinds of projects. Of course, social web services like Facebook, Twitter, etc. do indeed offer usernames, but only domains give us full ownership and control over branding and ultimately how we express ourselves online. Many of the traditional sites that offer domain names are poorly organised, hard to navigate and covered in spammy ads. You may also be interested in the following articles: 1. Turn Internet trash into money with ReFuel Last night Finnish energy company St1 launched ReFuel, their new biofuel product. ReFuel is interesting in the sense that it is produced from biowaste, and so no farmland is used in its production. To support the product launch we helped to create ReFuel Tehdas, an application for converting internet trash (bad pictures, advertisement banners) into money. To use it, you install a Firefox 3 extension with which you can then flag images as garbage: The image will then be sent to our garbage processor, which churns it into money for your account. You can claim some of the money by ordering a St1 Visa card. This makes browsing even the noisiest websites a serene experience, as dutiful ReFuel users have probably already removed most of the obnoxious blinking banner ads. Watching images pop into the garbage processor is also quite addictive, and gives an interesting insight into the dark subconscious of the Internet. To try it out, register to the site or watch the screencast.

Useful Glossaries For Web Designers and Developers | Developer&# Advertisement In a day in age where there are just as many freelancers as there are university educated designers, developers, and all around web gurus, it is amazing to me how much many of us don’t know or have forgot about our trade. As a self-taught designer, I will admit to you upfront that there is a lot I don’t know when it comes to official jargon or certain aspects of things like typography and graphic design. It is these reasons that I call upon glossaries from time to time. These glossaries are also especially useful for those of you who are just getting started in the online business world. jQuery Tag Suggestion 28 Dec If you’re familiar with del.icio.us you will be familiar with the tag suggesting as-you-type support. The reason why, I believe, the tagging works so well within del.icio.us is that it helps you create a subset of tags that you commonly use for different types of links. So, in an effort to adopt this approach, I’ve created a jQuery plugin for tag suggestion. Download tag.js The plugin has been tested with: IE 7Firefox 2Safari 3Opera 9 If anyone has any problems in any other browsers (or even these), I would appreciate the feedback. Demonstration View the tag suggestion demo View the source for the demo The demonstration shows off both the static based tags and the Ajax based tag suggestion. Example code Static example Allows the input field to have their own set of tag suggestions. Static global example setGlobalTags(['javascript', 'js2', 'js', 'jquery', 'java']);$(function () { $('input.tagSuggest').tagSuggest();}); Ajax example Style Plugin parameters
