Labelbox - How we got 1 million downloads in the App Store within 25 days - Stepcase Hello there, fellow HN user! If you like this post, I'd really appreciate an upvote . So 1 Million downloads was achieved! #1 photo app in 46 & top 5 in 77 countries, and top 25 overall in 27 countries and earned many reviews. How was this achieved? Nothing spent on advertising For starters, we spent $0 advertising the app. Reviews Before we released the app, we sent out requests to several blogs asking if they were interested in previewing labelbox. Using existing marketing channels Because we already have a few photo apps developed with Steply integrated, it made the Steply Network a crucial part of a cross-promotion and launch strategy for marketing current apps and new apps, so we used it to help launch Labelbox. Everyone who actively uses an app that is part of the Steply Network is informed via an in-app news notification that Labelbox was launched. Fragmented Android tablet market can still mean big money for devs The Kindle Fire and Nook Color are built to run on custom versions of Android, and their apps are essentially Android apps. But that hasn’t stopped Ansca Mobile, which makes a cross-platform app development tool called Corona, from releasing a software development kit today that supports the Kindle Fire and Nook Color separately. With one SDK, Ansca is helping developers build once to cover the increasingly fragmented Android market. Ansca is making the argument that it makes sense for developers to treat those devices as separate opportunities because each platform has sufficient differences, and each has substantial money-making potential. Ansca Mobile Co-Founder Walter Luh said differing hardware specifications, app review systems and app stores mean developers will already have to tweak their apps for each platform. I wrote about the early results developers are seeing on the Kindle Fire, and it backs up Luh’s contention. The issue will continue to evolve.

Follow him @thejongardner If you let your imagination run wild, innovations such as Google’s Project Glass suggest there will come a time when we’ll no longer converse with each other, but instead exchange data like a bunch of GPS-enabled cyborgs. While that may not be quite how it plays out, a highly-connected future is definitely on its way. Already, data shows that more than one third of American teens own an iPhone and the one-tablet-per-child initiative is a mainstay in South Korean and Thai schools. 1. Look in the mirror and what do you see? For example, the wizards at Corning provided an inspiring look at how touch screens made of glass might soon be seamlessly integrated into our environments. 2. When I say biotech, I mean data comes from everywhere, including from within. 3. 4. 5.

Android devs, you can now get your app running on a Mac Get ready to get nekkid and sing kumbaya, because the lovefest is starting. On the eve of the Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference a couple of weeks ago, we told you about a new tool that brought iOS apps to Windows-using developers. Today, we bring news of a tool to let you run an Android app on a Mac. Doesn’t it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? BlueStacks, a company that specializes in mobile app/operating system emulation, is today launching a tool that will let you run any kind of Android app on a Mac. BlueStacks launched a similar tool for running Android apps on Windows devices earlier this year. To announce the launch, the startup has set up shop in an enormous “wedding” tent across the street from Moscone Center, where the Google I/O developer conference is taking place, and it’s wooing developers with Android/Apple “marriage announcement” signage. [vb_gallery id="481314"] The BlueStacks software will be free for users to download from the company’s website.

Installing FireMonkey-iOS Tools on Mac - RAD Studio XE2 Go Up to FireMonkey Quick Start Guide - Set Up Your Development Environment Perform the following installation procedure on your development Mac: Install Xcode on the Mac. Setting Autosave FireMonkey iOS projects share project files with Xcode through the file system. Using DPR2XCODE.EXE, the Tool to Export a DPR Project to Xcode RAD Studio iOS projects must be exported as Xcode projects to run on the iOS simulator or iOS device. You must run dpr2xcode at least once for each project to generate the initial Xcode project, and run dpr2xcode again whenever changes or additional files are added to the project. dpr2xcode saves the project files (the ones you need for iOS development on the Mac) in an xcode folder inside your project directory. Automating DPR2XCODE Adding a Tools menu item makes it easy to run dpr2xcode within RAD Studio. Go to Tools > Configure Tools. Title = Export to Xcode Program = dpr2xcode.exe Parameters = $PROJECT

Museum Light Bulbs Beam Useful Information To Visitors’ Devices The FabCafe in Shibuya, Japan features a mix of 3D printing, laser cutting, and regular cafe offerings. In February, it is running a special workshop where participants can have their head captured by a high-tech machine that provides a 360° scan to make a unique 3D printed chocolate mold. FabCafe says all it takes is a look of love that you want that special someone to see when they open their box of chocolates and are greeted with a small chocolate version of your head looking up at them. The workshop consists of two consecutive classes in the run up to Valentine’s Day, and those who attend will receive a collection of chocolate heads to give to their loved one for the special occasion. They also get to keep the 3D printed mold, so they can make more chocolate versions of their head in the future if they wish to. Wired reports that this Valentine’s Day promotion, which will also teach participants the basics of 3D printing, costs 6,000 yen (around $65). FabCafe

Emoji cheat sheet for Campfire and GitHub Vu SendHub Now a Strong Google Voice Contender with 1 Million Texts and Exploding User Growth By Trevor Gilbert On July 17, 2012 SendHub started out slowly as a mass communication underdog, but with a million texts under its belt and 100% monthly user growth, it’s quickly becoming a viable Google Voice alternative. The company’s desktop and mobile services enable users to reach an unlimited number of contacts simultaneously. This comes in handy for everyone from conference organizers contacting attendees to team coaches trying to contact players. The Y Combinator-backed company recently added calling and voicemail to its basic broadcasting and text messaging services. That’s because SendHub believes in the divide between business and personal communications. It’s a difficult market to crack because of the carrier stranglehold on the market, which has even forced Google to move slowly. Combined with the ability to send text messages, SendHub starts to become attractive as a service. The company is is still growing despite its bad mobile app. SendHub is also tweaking its message.
