30 Incredibly Realistic 3D Interior and Exterior Environments 3D interior environments and 3d exterior environments are essential for architectural visualization, film and matte painting, visual effects, as well as design. For 3d interior environments, the most important factors are the realistic features of the geometry of the room, and the lighting, while for 3d exterior environments, the most important factor is the realistic features of flora and fauna, as well as lighting again. In this post, we’ve gathered up 30 incredibly realistic 3d interior and exterior environments that showcase the power of 3D when it comes to visualizing the world. Whether you want to imagine yourself overlooking a peak in the mountains, or in an abandoned subway, computer graphics can help you achieve it. If you like 3d environments, check out our other posts: Enjoy the post! MATERIALS Tutorials by Philip Klevestav < Back to Tutorials Index page On this page I have tried to create a few step by step tutorials including a lot of hints and tricks I use when creating such materials. I will not go into depth too much to avoid locking the tutorials to the programs I used when creating them. If you want some handy Photoshop actions I use frequently you can find a .atn file at the bottom of this page. The materials created here are not to be seen as tiling textures only (some of them are not even seamlessly tiling), but the point of the tutorials are more to go through material definition in general. Even if you create something with a highly stylized art direction, you will most likely want to define your materials anyhow, of course there are a lot of exceptions, but in my opinion defining good materials is not bound to realism, but rather to create a believable world, regardless if the world is a desert city on earth or a pink castle in space. » Download: PT Actions

Maya Tutorials -- Rigging for Animation Maya Tutorials -- Rigging for Animation Page 1 of 7 Nothing is more frustrating to an animator than a slow rig. This tutorial will show you some simple tricks and techniques that will help you speed up your characters for animation. The ultimate goal is real-time playback. If you feel like all your rigs are just a garbled mess, or just need a little guidance to get you moving in the right direction, then this tutorial will help you get the ball rolling. I’ll try to keep the “boring” stuff to a minimum, and get right to the point with what you need. Using Different Resolutions: Having different resolutions of the character you are working with can dramatically increase the speed of your rig. Low Resolution: Your low-resolution rig should be more accurately modeled to fit your character. High Resolution: This is your final rig, with the high-res model bound to the joints. Using different resolutions for rigging can create problems, too. I’d like to make a quick note about referencing.

Fonts! Chank’s Free Font Graveyard (formerly known as "Chank's Free Font Archive") is a gallery of historic experimental and fun fonts that were once offered freely on the world wide web and now have been retired from distribution. Some were stunning and some just stumbled, but all of these fonts were created with love, enhanced with real human spirit, and distributed freely on this website for many years. The Making of Siek Box House Rio Febrian | 3D Artist | Denpasar, IndonesiaHi all, thanks to the CGarchitect team for this great site and thank you for all who give comments, feedback and encouragement. In this article I will try to write the Making Of Siek Box House. This is my work for challenge the facebook group “3D Render Party”, and this box house is the 5th season of this group's challenges. The building model was provided by Arya Siek (the organizer/administrator of this group/challenge). CONCEPT AND WORKFLOWI believe that the preparation and planning step is very important in every visualization project. MODELINGAs I mentioned before, this model was provided by the organizer of this challenge. TEXTURINGMost of the textures that needed dirt, like the concrete wall, the window frame, railing, back-wall panel, pool andconcrete, used the VrayBlendMaterial. I needed to put different map channels for the dirt, so here are my UV mapping for the wall: Next, we have to define the environment background and GI.

The Monthly Character Animation Competition A collection of tips and tricks to help you with your entries. By: Mark Bogdanoff Published August 26th, 2011 Preparing a video can be confusing, especially when there are so many variables to take into account. One last note: There are many ways of encoding your video for submission to the contest, and you are welcome to choose whatever method works best for you, whether it's an MP4, Flash Video (.FLV), DivX (.AVI), or some other method (mkv, ogv, webm). The steps in this article assume that you are using Handbrake to prepare your submission. First we'll need to setup Handbrake with our preset. Step 0 - Setting up Handbrake First, download and install Handbrake here: Handbrake Downloads Then, download and unzip our preset file here: Handbrake_11SecondClub_Preset.zip Then, we need to import it into Handbrake. Choose the Handbrake_11SecondClub_Preset.plist file you just downloaded and you should see the "11 Second Club" preset in the presets section of the main Handbrake window: That's it!

Achieving a Vintage Look Through Color Tones in Photoshop CS by Guest Contributor Anna Gay Photographers are often striving for a “vintage” look in their photos, and even though there are endless ways of achieving a vintage look, there are a couple of characteristics to keep in mind. First of all, the color tones in a vintage photo often lean towards either a blue or a red hue, or a cross-processed look. Vintage photos also have an element of noise or grain that can be achieved through textures, and also a certain amount of vignetting around the edges of the photo. In this tutorial, we will look at adjusting color tones and adding vignettes. This photo is the result of adjusting the color curves, adding two vignettes, and a color fill, which we will walk through step-by-step. First, open your photo in Photoshop and make sure your foreground color is set to white in your side tool bar. You will see the above dialogue box. As you can see here, there should be three layers – your Background image, then your two gradient layers.

Quick Tip: MentalRay Proxies In today's quick tip, Dimitar Katerov will explain what proxy objects are, and how they can be used to render an insane amount of polygons in a single scene. If you've ever gone through the pain inducing task of trying to render a scene with a few hundred high-res tree models, then this quick tip may be the answer to your prayers! So fire up Maya and let's get started! Mental ray Proxy objects (assemblies) are used in many situations and give you a lot of benefits. The second major benefit of proxy objects is that they are only loaded at render time, and only during the time they are needed. Step 1 Open a scene with the object you want to make a proxy of. Step 2 Select everything that you want to export as a mental ray proxy object (move it to grid origin if it isn't already there). Step 3 In the Export window choose "MentalRay" as the "File Type", and choose "MentalRay" in the "General Options" tab as well. Step 4 Now we have a file which contains our proxy object. Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8

How To Create a Retro Badge/Emblem Style Logo The retro style badge/emblem of logos is a hot trend at the moment, and it’s no surprise why – They’re super cool! We’ve already looked at a showcase of retro and vintage style logos based on circular motifs, now let’s build our own. We’ll put the basic structure together in Illustrator, then give it that aged vintage appearance with some finishing touches in Photoshop. The logo we’ll be creating is for the totally fictional Powerhouse Gym (although I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a gym somewhere with this name!). View the retro/vintage logo design Be sure to check out the showcase of retro badge/emblem logos, then when you have plenty of ideas open up Adobe Illustrator and create a large circle. Press CMD+F to paste in another duplicate, scale down and change the fill to white. Paste a couple more circles and scale them appropriately to add a couple of thin strokes on the inside and outside of the white ring. Enter the words Powerhouse Gym then select an appropriate font.

Learn how successful short films and even most of todays feature films structure the story, to make it compelling to the audience. It’s all about Storytelling Almost all Films are based on a storytelling technique, that was first introduced by Aristotles (The Three Act Structure) and revised by Joseph Campell.
