Today, key climate scientists withdrew their predictions. It's difficult to keep track of all this shifting research. A "1 metre sea level rise" is in the same domain as "1 ton of carbon" or "£1 billion". So, in this diagram, I've tried to sum up all the current research on sea level rises. In an effort to make the information easier to relate to, I've also thrown in which key cities around the world will be most affected by the rises. I hope it helps. If you've come across any other data or sources, please let me know. About the data I've taken the lowest, most conservative figures I could find. The key sources are Sea Level Rise Explorer , studies from the Potsdam Institute (PDF) and reports from the IPCC Report (2001 - the most conservative one). CORRECTION & APOLOGY: Planes or Volcano? We got our figures wrong on the CO2 emissions of Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajoekull. Badly wrong. So we want to apologise. We pride ourselves on good data and solid information. Despite detailed research and feedback from Icelandic vulcanologists, our figures were out by a magnitude of ten. The volcano is emitting 150,000 tons of CO2 per day, not 15,000 tons. The post was always intended as an open question. World Climate Report » Global Greening Continues: Did We Cause It? You know the story. Humans are burning fossil fuels and because of their actions, the world is now warming at an unprecedented pace. This warming is stressing ecosystems throughout the world with devastating consequences to vegetation from one end of the earth to the other. If we do not act fast, we will destroy the planet and have a tough time facing our grandchildren. We can all hear it now—why didn’t you do something when there was still time to save the Earth? Two articles have appeared recently in the scientific literature with results that may make us reconsider this entire affair. Three Chinese scientists (all with the last name of Liu) used satellite data to detect changes occurring in vegetation throughout the world. As seen in their figure below (Figure1), the red colors absolutely dominate indicating an increase in vegetation status! “Results show that, over the past 26 years, LAI has generally increased at a rate of 0.0013 per year around the globe. Annika Carlsson-Kanyama: Min gissning är att om du räknar fram dina växthusgasutsläpp så kommer profilen att domineras av dina flygresor. Men det är ju helheten som räknas, klarar du dig med utsläpp på sådär 2 ton per år så lever du definitivt klimatsmart, även om du flyger. Men det är svårt att göra det idag, hänger mkt ihop med hur mycket pengar vi spenderar, allt vi köper har i produktionskedjan bidragit till utsläpp. Larsan: Tror du på fullt allvar att vi människor verkligen kan påverka klimatets förändringar?
