Educational Vodcasting - Flipping the Classroom
This site is maintained by Jerry Overmyer and is devoted to teaching educators how to use screencasting to flip your classroom. This method of learning is the brainchild of Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams who are pioneers in the field of using screencasting in education. The official site is now at the Flipped Learning Network. The flipped classroom model encompasses any use of using Internet technology to leverage the learning in your classroom, so you can spend more time interacting with students instead of lecturing. This is most commonly being done using teacher created videos (aka vodcasting) that students view outside of class time. It is called the flipped class because the whole classroom/homework paradigm is "flipped".

Five Best Practices for the Flipped Classroom Ok, I'll be honest. I get very nervous when I hear education reformists and politicians tout how "incredible" the flipped-classroom model, or how it will "solve" many of the problems of education. It doesn't solve anything. It is a great first step in reframing the role of the teacher in the classroom. It fosters the "guide on the side" mentality and role, rather than that of the "sage of the stage." It helps move a classroom culture towards student construction of knowledge rather than the teacher having to tell the knowledge to students. Create a large display space in your school or in some other public area in your community where people can write down other big questions, and/or identify which of the already-posted questions seems especially intriguing to them. 2) Anderson asks, “Why do so many innocent people and animals suffer terrible things?” Humans have been asking this whopper of a question for almost as long as humans have existed.

Flipped Classrooms — Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center by guest writer Karen Brinkley If asked to describe a traditional college classroom and style of pedagogy, most people would probably think of students who come to a classroom of chairs in rows to listen to a professor deliver a lecture, and who then did textbook readings and assignments at home. Yet those who have experienced a flipped classroom would describe something completely different. Flipping classrooms is a fairly recent and growing trend sweeping through classrooms across the country. And the name is pretty fitting. A flipped classroom does just that: it takes the traditional model and, with the help of technology, reverses it. Finding the right resource to support flipped classrooms in the UK What if traditional methods of classroom teaching and ‘homework’ were switched? Teaching professionals have constantly looked at improving ways of raising learner engagement and attainment. While some have fared better than others, it is technology that has offered the greatest scope for innovation, helping the teacher to spend more time supporting students directly rather than instructing them from the front of the class.
