Guide To Quickly Arranging Lead Sheets | Piano With Willie | Learn The Piano | Piano Lessons In this month’s article, I am going to talk about different techniques you can use to quickly create an arrangement from a lead sheet. Lead sheets, sometimes referred to “Lead Lines” are when you are presented with only the chords and melody of a song. If you know how to create an arrangement using lead sheets, you have thousands of songs at your fingertips. Now, you probably already know that in order to create an arrangement from a lead sheet, you must know your chords. Video Lesson: Can’t see the video? Step 1 – Finding & Playing The Roots The first step in preparing our arrangement is to start with only the roots of the chords. Every chord symbol has (2) parts: 1) the root and 2) the symbol. Let’s take a look at the first four measures of the song to see how we can apply this technique. By playing only the roots of the chord, we are creating a simple arrangement that will work, but it is not very full. Step 2 – Root-7, Root-3 Chords Step 3 – Adding Motion Step 4 -Improvisation

If you’re new to the world of effects or if you stepped away for a few years of the post-Y2K boutique pedal revolution, the available array of tone-coloring and tone-bending devices can be overwhelming. Some shops that cater to creative guitarists have cases stocked with literally hundreds of brightly colored boxes, all begging for a place on players’ pedal boards. But cutting through the maze of candy-colored stomp boxes is a direct path that can take you to a place where the sounds on most classic and not-so-classic recordings can be duplicated or approximated. And the stepping-stones of that path are the 10 essential pedal functions that comprise the fundamental tone-tweaking tools. Tuner Distortion Tremolo Wah-Wah Chorus
Announcing the Release of SWIRL 2.0 Editor's note: This post was written by Nick Carchedi, a Master's degree student in the Department of Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins. He is working with us to develop the Data Science Specialization as well as software for interactive learning of R and statistics. Official swirl website: swirlstats.com On September 27, 2013, I wrote a guest blog post on Simply Statistics to announce the creation of Statistics with Interactive R Learning (swirl), an R package for teaching and learning statistics and R simultaneously and interactively. In the spirit of R and open source software, I shared the source code for swirl on GitHub. Today, I'm happy to announce the result of our efforts: swirl 2.0. Like the first version of the software, swirl 2.0 guides students through interactive tutorials in the R console on a variety of topics related to statistics and R. It's helpful to think of swirl as the synthesis of two separate parts: content and platform.
