Audios and videos for download for school - Teaching Science in Primary Schools Ireland Activity Movies [Flash] New Flash Activity: Investigating Mirrors Join Molly and Spidey as they get reflective while learning about mirrors. Select the link below to get started. Remember if you have a projector and white board and would like to present the activity to your class, choose the larger version where available for maximum impact! Launch the 'Investigating Mirrors' Movie Mirrors can do a lot more than just helping us to brush our teeth or get dressed in the morning. The video section of the activity is streamed from YouTube. Launch the 'Paper Rockets' Movie Molly and Spidey learn about rockets - what they are and how they help us as we explore space. Launch the 'Seeing Stars' Movie Molly and Spidey learn about the stars and that most recognisable constellation - the Plough in this activity. Launch the 'Investigating Pulleys' Movie Molly and Spidey learn about the power of pulleys and how these simple but important machines are put to use in this activity. Launch the Aeroplanes Movie

Machine Learning Machine learning is the science of getting computers to act without being explicitly programmed. In the past decade, machine learning has given us self-driving cars, practical speech recognition, effective web search, and a vastly improved understanding of the human genome. Machine learning is so pervasive today that you probably use it dozens of times a day without knowing it. Many researchers also think it is the best way to make progress towards human-level AI. This course provides a broad introduction to machine learning, datamining, and statistical pattern recognition. How to Design a Beautiful iPad Lesson: This is a beautiful lesson designed and presented by Rob Miller on Scrib. What I really like about this series of activities is that it allows the students or in Rob's case his teachers to articulate their own learning. It is never about a single app. It is the combination of apps that allow the learners to meet the learning outcomes. It is a great example of building a meaningful lesson around a concept and then providing the students with the tools to create content. The other great thing about this lesson is the beautifully designed yet simple instructions built by Rob. I would like to thank Rob for sharing this resource. This series of activities has got me thinking about a whole range of tasks that I now want to design and share with my own students.

MIT launches student-produced educational video initiative MIT student-produced video on rockets (Credit: MIT) MIT has launched an initiative in collaboration with Khan Academy founder Salman Khan called MIT+K12 that encourages its students to produce short videos teaching basic concepts in science and engineering . The videos — aimed at students in grades from kindergarten through high school — will be accessible through a dedicated MIT website and YouTube channel . Some of the videos will also be available on Khan Academy , a popular not-for-profit educational site. “We wanted to help inspire young people to change the world through engineering and science, and realized that the 10,000 superstar students we have at MIT are uniquely positioned to do that,” says Ian A. Waitz, dean of the School of Engineering and the Jerome C. Waitz conceived of the initiative — known as MIT+K12 — to help address growing challenges in primary and secondary education in the United States, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
