1. 2. 4. Licence :

Good experience with a mobile Google+ Hangout One of the most appealing things about Google+ is the Hangouts video conferencing feature. It lets you conduct impromptu video conversations with up to ten people with just your connected computer and a webcam and microphone. Nothing to install or subscribe to (it’s a free service) and it works very well. I’ve done more than a dozen of these from a business perspective – including a number as FIR video interviews and panels – and they’re a terrific on-demand and informal communication tool. On Friday, I took part in a terrific Hangout discussion hosted and recorded by my podcasting partner Shel Holtz together with Stuart Bruce and Phil Gomes. I used the latest version of the Google+ app for Android to join the Hangout that Shel had started (you can’t start a hangout yourself from a mobile device). I was really impressed at how good the overall experience was in taking part on a mobile device. Related Talking up Google+ Hangouts live In "Communication"

Google+ Now Lets You Upload Address Books From Outlook, Your Mac, And More Googler Paul Linder just pointed out that there’s now an option in Google+ for users to upload address books in order to find and invite more friends to join the company’s brand new social networking service. As Vic Gundotra added shortly thereafter, this is a fairly big deal. We heard the address book importing feature was coming, but it looks like it was just added a few hours ago. To be clear, this is different from the one-click contact importer for Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo users.

The first 5 things to do on your Google+ page You followed the sage advice of social media experts who told you why your business should be on Google+, and you created a business page for your brand. Now what? The worst thing you could do is let your page sit idle. Google recently announced that it heavily integrates Google+ into Google search, which makes it all the more important to optimize your page and get involved on the social network. Here are the five first things you should do with your Google+ business page: 1. As I said above, one of the most powerful features of Google+ is Google's search. Hint: To edit your page, select the profile view and click the "edit profile" button. Verify your page with Google. Add a carefully crafted tagline. Write a complete introduction. Add recommended links. 2. Your profile's job description plays a large role in people's first impression of your brand. Make creative use of the "Scrapbook" photos at the top of your profile. Also take advantage of the rich text editor. 3. 4. 5.

What You Should Know About Google+ Pages We’ve been waiting for this feature for months now, and we finally have it. Google+ now supports pages for companies and groups, but there’s something you should know before you get started. When Google+ first started, it blocked users who tried making company profiles over a personal profile. Google+ said no and told every company to wait for it to roll out the pages feature. Up until now we’ve had to follow influential people from the companies that we like the most to get posts from the blogs we love. Now Google+ has pages where you can set up a designated page for your company or group and it has its own set of guidelines to follow over the personal profiles. A Google+ page cannot follow others until it is followed first. Google+ pages will unfollow you if you unfollow them. A Google+ page can’t mention someone who doesn’t follow it. You can +1 Google+ pages. Google+ pages integrate in Google search.

Google Sparks can be a really interesting way to find out what people are talking about in your niche topics. But recently, Google Plus has relocated them. Google+ lets you search for hashtags, but it isn't quite there yet The Google+ gods are listening, and they have given us searchable hashtags. … Sort of. While surfing my merry little workaholic way through my main Google+ stream this evening, I noticed a post from Natalie Villalobos, Community Manager at Google+, pointing towards a hash tagged search on the platform. I did a double-take, of course, as just this past weekend, I wrote a rather lengthy post suggesting how beneficial searchable Google+ hashtags would be on the platform, supporting it with comments and insight from the G+ community itself. The hash tagged search Villalobos points towards is #OccupyWallStreet, which Frances Haugen, Google+ Profiles Product Manager, says is currently “hopping.” For clarification, hash tagging any keyword will bring it up in in search alongside regular keyword searches. How it currently works: Typing in any keyword, hash tagged or not, into the Google+ search bar will bring up any conversation on G+ relevant to the keyword. I want more, Google+.

Can Google+ beat Twitter and Facebook as a tool for journalists? Google+ has taken off like no other social network before it. While it’s still in ‘limited field trial’ mode, it’s already being seriously considered as a contender to take on Twitter and Facebook. Journalists already use both those networks to great effect. Some journalists have already started experimenting with Google+ as a way to share, discuss or source news. Alexis Madrigal, Senior Editor at The Atlantic, is running an “experiment in real-time news” called The Atlantic PLUS, which he posts each day to his Google+ account. So, what makes Google+ an appealing journalistic tool? “If you take the example of the statement Rupert and James Murdoch were refused permission to give at the (UK government) Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, News Corporation released that to the press and I had it up on Google+ within twenty seconds of receiving it. “The feedback is better than Twitter too,” he continues. What about Facebook? Not everyone sees Google+ as the future…yet

A Journalist's Primer to Google+ After a few months of chatter, Google+ has opened up to everyone. As a journalist, Google+ is something you need to explore. Its simplicity of broadcasting your message is worth understanding and using to connect with news consumers. I jumped into the new social space within 24 hours of its release. But first, to understand Google+, you must get back to the basics of social media. Twitter When you post to Twitter, everyone sees it. Facebook A lot of things have recently changed in the ways you can post to Facebook, but let’s keep it simple. Think about peanut butter and chocolate coming together. Before you join, add a profile Before you jump in, I highly recommend you build the heck out of your Google profile. Signing up Once you have an established Google profile, it’s time to head over to Google+. You will be able to read posts from anyone you circle who posts to the public setting or when he or she adds you to a circle they pick to share. The G+ experience Hangouts Play Related

A Google+ upgrade that could be useful for PR counselors (and journalists) By | Posted: September 21, 2011 One day after the release of a new (and potentially bogus) study suggesting Google+ activity has decline significantly, the search giant grabbed headlines by announcing that the social network is now open to everyone. Of course, considering how easy it was to score a Google+ invite, you probably figured it already was open to the public. In a blog post on Tuesday, Vic Gundotra, Google’s senior vice president of engineering, said: For the past 12 weeks we’ve been in field trial, and during that time we’ve listened and learned a great deal. The latest improvements include Hangouts on smartphones and tablets (Hangouts is the video-chat feature that lets up to 10 people take part); a new hybrid search that enables users to search within the social network and on the open Web; several Hangout “extras,” and more. An additional feature that may wind up being the most relevant for PR professionals and journalists is Hangouts On Air. Gundotra explained:

Why I’m hooked on Google+ Mark Ragan asked on Google+: “Why do you like Google+ or dislike it? What are its greatest strengths? Weaknesses?” Why I keep returning to Google+ I find myself looking at and replying to the posts in my Circles at least daily. 1) The organization of comments with the original post enables an intelligent, longer form conversation. 2) The absence of the “traffic building” gimmicks that caused Facebook’s interface to become a junkyard (on the way to being he next MySpace in terms of a messy interface?) 3) Google+ Hangouts and Chat provide instant communications options – from every page. 4) Circles, of course! It still could be improved Not every thing is perfect. My public profile on Google+ If you’re interested in following what I have to say on Google+, check out my public profile.
