The Conversation: In-depth analysis, research, news and ideas from leading academics and researchers. Google Launches Tool for Online Reputation Management Google has introduced a tool that helps you manage search results for your name. The tool, "Me on the Web," is now included on the Google dashboard in between account information and analytics. It is not intended to be another privacy setting. "Your online identity is determined not only by what you post, but also by what others post about you — whether a mention in a blog post, a photo tag or a reply to a public status update," Google explains. SEE ALSO: 5 Ways to Clean Up Your Social Media Identity The new dashboard section encourages you to keep tabs on these mentions by setting up search alerts for data points included in your Google profile, like your name and email address. Rory Fitzgerald: The Pope's UK Visit: "Aggressive Secularists" Are Making Britain an Intolerant, Bigoted Nation (Again) Virulent anti-Catholicism is alive and well in modern Britain. It is particularly interesting to watch this spectacle of hatred from the neighbouring island to the west -- one which has felt first-hand the depth of British hatred of Catholicism for many centuries. There was rabid anti-Catholicism in Cromwell's massacres of thousands of innocent Irish people in the 1600s. There was anti-Catholicism in the British authorities who subjected millions of Irish and Scots to dispossession, death, disease and oppression in their own countries throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. There was anti-Catholicism in the British troops who fired over the head of my grandmother when, as a 6-year-old, she hid from them in the hedgerows on her way to school. Brendan O'Neill of Spiked, says "the campaigning against [the pope's] visit has become so shrill that soon only dogs will be able to hear it. Some of the criticism of the Church is fair-minded and based in fact. Did he report this to the police?

Are Twitter Followers Better Than Facebook Fans? Marketers looking to push out the most effective messages to opt-in recipients must understand how audiences differ across channels and what causes them to connect with brands. Social media positive for teens? Maybe! I'll admit it right at the start: When I think about teens and social media, I immediately begin to tally up the negatives. What good could possibly come from teens and tweens spending gobs of time on online networks, posting nonstop "selfies," some in rather suggestive poses, and often communicating with people they don't even know? A running joke at home: My girls, ages 6 and 7, can't get iPhones until they're 40. But then I chat with other moms, who always know best, and a picture emerges that social media is not always the scary enemy some of us might think it is for our tweens and teens. Take the "selfie," for example, which if you haven't already heard has been named Oxford Dictionaries' word of the year for 2013. "When they post selfies, all the comments I usually see are 'You're beautiful,' 'You're so pretty,' 'Oh my God, gorgeous,'" said Masio. News outlets focus on the negative
