Food: A gluten-free Thanksgiving made easy You might call it fear of cardboard. Preparing your first Thanksgiving dinner without gluten or including several gluten-free dishes sounds daunting, but many turkey-day favorites are gluten free naturally or only require small tweaks. "Going to someone's house or trying to cook, (people think) I'm not going to have my stuffing, gravy and pumpkin pie," says Nick Davis, Whole Foods' regional executive chef for the Rocky Mountain region. However, he says, many of those dishes can still be delicious with substitutions. "You can work it into the plan, instead of making little bitty things just for them and singling them out," he says. Already gluten free Gluten-free gravy and stuffing for Thanksgiving. One of the easiest ways to make Thanksgiving gluten free is to choose dishes that don't have gluten in them anyway. Cornbread stuffing is versatile. Many other dishes -- squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn and green beans -- that frequently appear on the Thanksgiving table don't have gluten.

Supreme Court Sides With Democrats' Proposed Congressional Boundaries (MAPS) The Colorado Supreme Court heard arguments from Republicans Thursday challenging the November decision by District Court Judge Robert Hyatt who selected a Democrat-proposed map that redraws district lines making several GOP districts more competitive. The Colorado Supreme Court this morning upheld the Democrats' redistricting map, reports the Denver Post. A written opinion from the Supreme Court is forthcoming. The Denver Post reports that Republicans called for the Colorado Supreme Court to overturn Judge Hyatt's decision. "The trial court was manifestly unreasonable and should be reversed," GOP attorney Richard Westfall said. Mark Grueskin, an attorney representing the Democrats, blasted the GOP argument saying, "it wasn't even credible," CBS4 reports. The Denver Post has put together a helpful graphic map of the new district boundaries, click here to view. Under the new map, Republican Rep. No ruling was made after the arguments were heard.

Richard Lazzara - #Boulder,#BuyMyArt US Government Pays Contractors Twice as Much as Civil Servants for the Same Work | News & Notes Since the 1990s, the outsourcing of what were once considered to be public services has grown exponentially, while the size of the federal workforce has fallen significantly. The rationale for these deep reductions in the public sector is that private companies are more efficient. The privatizers claim that they can render the same services as civil servants for less, even after making a profit. Pulitzer prize-winning journalist David Cay Johnston, author most recently of The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use “Plain English” to Rob You Blind, takes a skeptical look at these claims in an article for Newsweek… Read the whole thing at Newsweek.

Biotemplated Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Device Developed Research Published on December 10th, 2013 | by James Ayre A new biotemplated, flexible piezoelectric energy harvesting device (nano-generator) has been created by researchers from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at KAIST. The researchers think that the new device/technology could allow next-generation LCD screens and LED bulbs to be powered by nothing but “simple finger movements.” The nano-generators are composed of a form of barium titanate (BaTiO3) that’s synthesized biologically with the aid of a genetically modified virus — in the GMO viruses, the “M13″ viral gene is the one modified. KAIST provides more: Nature has its own capabilities to spontaneously synthesize and self-assemble universal materials with sophisticated architectures such as shells, sea sponges, and bone minerals.
