Showcase Of Beautiful But Unusable Websites Advertisement “Form follows function” is a widely accepted — albeit controversial — principle that most designers in a variety of disciplines have adopted since its inception at the turn of the 20th century. On the web, we commonly refer to function as usability which is the ease of use and navigation of a website in order to achieve user’s goals. In this showcase we present websites that sacrifice usability for beauty and present issues related to clutter, loading, navigation, archiving or visibility. Unfortunately, although the sites featured in this showcase are visually appealing, they are quite difficult to use.

You know Joe and his amazing detailed design as we work together on the (sold out) 2015 edition of the calendar and he designed the front cover. Every single playing card within the High Victorian deck was designed from scratch - even the Aces, Jokers, and court cards exude the grand excess of ornamentation quintessential to the Victorian era. In a word: breathtaking. Antler is a deck designed by Tom Lane, who also creates this year edition of the front cover of the letterpress calendar! This Tobacco Brown back design features two Twin Bucks enshrined within beautiful flourishes that mimic the lush forest of Yosemite National Park.

Even in every day language a space is no a space, but maybe a space. A room might be a space, but also a square might be a space. Probably everything in between is also a space. In terms of geography the division of space as in measuring it, is very important. This is especially important for the transformation of space (reality) in to a map (abstraction).

Creative Tempest Banksy is iconoclastic. It’s hard not to see a work of graffiti done in stencil and not think of him, and that’s saying a lot. His work is simple and it is his daring and perfect wit that has made him famous, and known to many of you. We love him for making us stop, or making us laugh at some of life’s grim realities that we often ignore. News It's the start of another week in Los Angeles. Urban SOS Urban SOS: Fair Share Led by AECOM and Van Alen Institute, in partnership with 100 Resilient Cities — Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, Urban SOS: Fair Share challenged multidisciplinary student teams to combine the concepts of the sharing economy with physical design to propose innovative solutions to critical urban issues. The challenge culminated in a live final jury event in Los Angeles on January 10, 2017, with finalist “First Class Meal” emerging as the 2016 winner. Four finalists competed at the final event, presenting to a jury of ten leading professionals from the design, government, business and technology sector, as well as a live audience.

30 Awesome SVG Animation For Your Inspiration Designers used to create animations in HTML elements using CSS. However, due to the limitations of HTML elements in creating patterns, shapes, and others, they naturally turn to SVG, which offers more interesting capabilities. Working with SVG, we enjoy good browser supprot for SVG animation, and we have more ways to create new animation. You can use both the built-in SVG animation functionality or CSS3 animation (note that not everything can be done by CSS so there is still need for JavaScript). Another way is by using JavaScript engines such as GSAP or Snap. JS is good practice for creating animation.
