Buddha: 9780192854537 Loading latest prices, please wait Good, If Somewhat Sanitized Rating: 80% This lucid little book draws on the Pali canon to retell the life of the Buddha and to recast his philosophy as a strategy for moral and psychological transformation. Reader (Amazon.com) The way of the Buddha Rating: 100% One major claim of this book is that in Buddha's case it is impossible to understand the thought without understanding the life. I write these words without understanding what ' enlightentment' means and without knowing why I should seek for it, and without having any sense of why it is right to be liberated from the pains and difficulties of our most intimate human connections. It is not enough to read a book, and take in the meanings intellectually to truly understand it. I do not understand the way of the Buddha, but my sense is that this work is a fine introduction to beginning to know it. He offers a brief biography that focuses on Augustine's scholarly road to Christianity as much as anything. Chadwick highlights the influences of philosophers like Plato, Plotinus and Cicero on Augustine throughout his life. Chadwick leads the reader through Augustine's life, mind and spiritual biography by highlighting key topics that impacted Augustine's life and theology. This book is complete in itself while whetting the reader's appetite to take the next step in his or her discovery of and relationship with Augustine. C. Chadwick's Introduction is a Pleasure to Read This book was an absolute pleasure to read. This is not a biography of Augustine's life as much as a biography of Augustine's thought. G. Capurro Gibraltar (landrovertxfree) Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai: 9784770011060 Loading latest prices, please wait The Way of The Samurai Rating: 80% Whatever your belief system, this is a major work that needs to be read and contemplated slowly. It' a wonderful insight into the code by which the Samurai lived, and one that many people could make use of in real ways in their own lives, and without betraying any other beliefs really. It's largely about disciplined living. Once you've read it, if you then want a novel to read, I will highly recommend Jayne Joso's: Soothing Music for Stray Cats which references The Way of The Samurai, I think you are certain to enjoy and appreciate it. But are your kids doing too much? If your child has something scheduled after school every day then that is probably the case. After all if your child’s week includes drama, gymnastics, music lessons, a sporting activity and the school newspaper, then by the end of the day that child is probably tired and frazzled — and that’s before they do any homework. Of course, there are advantages to doing all these extracurricular activities. Guidelines for younger kids Children who are in Grade 2 or under should probably only do a couple of activities a week. After school activities for older kids Children who are even older, say, in middle school, need to balance their activities with the need to get their homework done. Setting priorities for extracurricular activities Whatever age your children are you will need to help them understand how to prioritize their activities. Family time Like this:
Social Media and Egyptian Revolution | Top SEO blog Image via Wikipedia Social media is no longer limited to status updates and posting photos from a friend’s birthday party. It has quickly become one of the most influential factors in grassroots socio-political mobilization across the globe. The January 25 revolution in Egypt gained a major foothold with the application of Facebook and Twitter. On February 9 former President Bill Clinton gave a lecture at New York University about the Dayton Peace Accords, which ended the 1995 Bosnia-Herzegovina genocide. Clinton reflected back on the quality of technology available during his presidency 16 years ago, “There were just 50 Internet sites and the average cell phone weighed 5 pounds”. Inspired by events taking place during the recent successful revolt in Tunisia, many Egyptians began protesting against the unemployment and poverty resulting from 30-year s of autocratic rule by former President Hosni Mubarak.
